Anyone know anything about Baseball and autographs?

As a precursor to this, I'd like to say I live in a small town (about 50,000 people) that's really isolated in the center of Sweden. By isolated, I mean it's a 2.5 hour drive to the nearest town, and that's a small town too.

I went to a garage sale today. Actually, I just drove past it and decided to stop and have a look because I enjoy fleamarkets and stuff like that.

These two chicks in their 20s were selling all kinds of junk, and among the stuff was an old baseball full of autographs. She said her grandpa had given it to her when she was a year old but she didn't know if it was worth anything. Judging from how old she looked, I'd say this would have been the mid- to late 80's. She didn't know anything about baseball, and neither do I. Nobody here knows s**t about Baseball in kind of the same way nobody in Idaho knows anything about Swedish soccer.
Anyway, she told me her grandpa gave it to her and she had some relatives in the states so she got stuff like that. She was selling it for the equivalent of $15 USD and looking at it I couldn't say for sure if the autographs have been printed on it or written by the same pen. It looks worn though, and has a big mark as if someone's taken a major swing at it.

I've no idea if they sell these things in giftshops or if someone's managed to get an entire ball team to sign their ball at one point, if it's worth something or nothing at all. For 15 bucks I figured I'd take a gamble. If nothing else, maybe the fact that it's from the 80's could make it worth at least that much. Or at least it's a cool thing to put on the book shelf.

I'll post some pictures later on. In the meantime, anyone have a clue of what something like that could be worth, or if it could be genuine or not? Do they sell printed autograph balls that look real at all?

No way to know what it could possibly be worth without a great deal more detail. If it's signed by some rookie no one remembers who only played one season, then it's probably worth nothing. If it's a rookie card signed by Pete Rose in 1963, then that'll be a different story.

From the looks of it, it's a baseball signed by a whole team. I'll get photos when I got my camera.

If it was a pennant-winning or World Series Championship team (or a team that had a Hall of Famer or two on it) that signed the ball and it is in good enough condition to be confirmed as authentic by someone who really knows their stuff then it probably is worth something. If it's either too banged up to be authenticated or the team was too inconsequential to have been important in some way to the history of the game then it probably isn't worth very much at all. In order to be worth a lot it probably has to be in mint or at least near mint condition though.

I think that I see a Rick Aguilera autograph in the middle there. He pitched for the New York Mets for most of the 1980s (from 1985 until the second half of 1989 when he started a seven season run with the Minnesota Twins. It's worth noting that the Mets won the World Series in 1986, his second season. If it happens to be the full team's autographs from that year it would be worth something. I'd need to be more knowledgeable about autographs to know whether something like that could be confirmed in this case and how much exactly it would be worth if it is, in fact, a 1986 Mets ball. If it's from another Mets team in the 1980s then, well, there were still some good players on those teams so maybe it would be worth something, but probably not as much.

It's a 1991 Minnesota Twins pre-printed ball. Unfortunately, it's probably not worth much. I think I had a couple of them at one point.

I loathed the 1991 Minnesota Twins....was/still a big Jays fan!!

Same here! I was seven years old when the Twins beat the Jays in the ALCS that year and it probably would have scarred me as a baseball fan had the Jays not won the World Series the following two years. The Jays were really the better team that year. They basically just blew it in that series. Happily I am scarred anyway given the eighteen years without a playoff birth the team has enjoyed since those championships.

I know man....it's been brutal. Pretty tough to compete when your in the same division with the Yankees and Red Sox. MLB really needs to change the playoff format. 4 teams in each league just isn't enough.
