Anyone Know about the NY Digital Film Academy?

Hello Reader,
I'm not trying to disrespect DFA (I live by next block). Schools are always a better choice. But when it comes to film school in NYC, I guess Rush Hamden's DCT complete DVD set are better choice.

But please wait for more feedbacks.

Sounds like a ripoff. I think you can learn alot of digital film making out of books and just crewing on sets. I mean, I'm sure you can learn alot at this place, but for the money, some dvds, books and experience sounds better to me.

My whole semester of school was $2000, and we get to use Arri 35mm cameras, full post-prod setups, light/grip packs.

Thanks Kwan and Nomadic. :) Though I encourage people with lots of money to investigate the available film schools, I also know that most young artists don't have $20,000 to spend on a year of schooling. I guess that's where we come in. Thanks again for your feedback! :dankk2:

Actually DCC was the first recomendation I gave Rush, however part of the equation is this guy wants to get away from home LOL so anywyas thanks for the info guys.

Check out OCC (orange coast college) in OC. It's a junior college in Socal about an hour south of LA. My recomendation would be to go and attend the (cheap) film classes and do entry level PA/Grip work in LA to help pay rent. That's what I would have done instead of my big fancy expensive film school experience, if I'd of known better...

Now I have a master's in film and big-assed student loan bill.

or, move to california, work someone where for a year, then go to public colleges in california.

its either 20 or 26 bucks a credit... thats freaking cheap.

Hate to say it but, everything I've heard about OCC, (and I have some friends that go there) makes it sound pretty crappy. Heres another option, go buy Robert Rodrigez' Rebel Without A Crew (that book is so motivating) and move to either LA or NY where you can find alot of work and just work as much as you can with the best attitude and you will find more and more jobs!

(not that I'm not pro or con film school, I am film student, but I can definatly see peoples points about learning through the industry. Biola Uni's Film Schools been a great thing to me)

Please don't get me wrong. It is help full to work on the field as an PA, grip or etc. But its a very slow way to learn.
My advice is only School (not in NYC unless University) or learning DVD course, which will help you to have a solid and quick foundation in your film career.

I have reviewed Rush Hamden's DVD courses, It is positive tutorial.

For RUSH Hamden! I like your tutorial on digital composting. Please accept my request and design a program for students who like to know "how to use new revolutionary keying method, The ring light and Glass beads gray back ground also known as retroreflective background". This will be next generation keying method.

I have design my own ring and bought a retroreflective background last year and I'm working almost every day. In my experience, It is super time saver and easyiest way to keying

Sounds like you're the one who should be making the video tutorial.

Thanks Kwan!

Well we don't have a video on the ringlite method that companies like Reflecmedia use, but you never know :) We do have a Digital Compositing Guide that teaches you how to shoot against a standard Green and Blue Screen with an HVX200, and takes you all the way from Lighting Prep to Post. 4-DVD set: Digital Compositing Guide
