Anyone know a Nikon Aperture HACK ?

Hi all :)

Has anyone tried "fixing" the aperture 'prong' on the mount of the:

AF-S VR Zoom-NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8G IF-ED

For those who haven't seen this new type of lense, Nikon removes the external aperture ring (MEAN), so aperture can really only be changed on digital slr cameras. BUT i want to use it with my Letus :)

You can slide the 'prong' on the mount, which opens and closes the aperture completely, but it locks to f.22 when used on a manual mount, so I'm wondering if anyone has been brave enough to "stick" the prong so it is wide open, and if so, any repercussions? (eg: lens don't work = big repercussion)

Charles,

i have a af nikkor70-300 f4-5.6 G which i use. I just tape the prong in place. sometimes , i stick a piece of cardboard to "lock" the prong in place THEN i gaffer tape it so it wont pop off.

Tried this on the 28-55 that came with my Nikon D40, as well as the 55-200. It works. However, the vignetting on these digital slr lenses is pretty bad.

Makes sense. Digital-only lenses are created with the APS-C sensor's crop factor in mind. If you are going to use these lenses, you'll have to zoom into your GG even more to match the 1.5x crop factor and eliminate vignetting.
