Anyone interested in a short D4 to Component cable?

Hi Trout.

Did you get this cable? Does it work? It looks the same as the Panny, but I bought some 3M D-4 connectors, and for whatever reason, they don't work with the Hirose on the camera. So now I'm gunshy of anything not Panny.

Thanks!

Well I got absolutly no where with finding a shorter D4 component cable, but others have had much more success.
In this thread...

...people have reported that the cable from...

...is pretty much what we have been looking for. Needs to have a cable adapter on it, but if you have BNC connector's on your monitor, you need to do this with the current one anyway.

Thanks to those people for pursuing this one all the way through; I kind of dropped the ball after my rather over enthusiastic original post :-)

Crazy busy, have had a shoot every weekend this month!

Got the cable, works great. I love having the female RCA connections because I pair it up with this guy, as well as a pair of these at the camera, to create a breakaway unbilical setup, so the camera can quickly disconnect from the monitor/mixer and move on to the next deal.

I can snap a few pictures if requested.

d-4 pooping off

d-4 pooping off

anybody having trouble with the d-4 connection, my cable keeps on popping off. Any expert advise on getting a very tight fit?

Does anyone know the technical name for the D4 connector on the cable that hooks up to the HVX? My cable died and I just want to purchase the connector itself and make my own break out cable/box. Places like mouser.com must have stuff like this, but I'm not sure how to find it. -thanks!

D-4 works, also mini-d 14 (mini-d connector, 14 pin). I bought some 3M connectors from Digi-Key, part numbers 3M1701 (connector) and 3M1745 (shell). They have the same spec as the Hirose connector (it's a standard connector) but I couldn't make them work. Maybe it was just my soldering job, but I tried enough times that SOMETHING should have worked.

As far as I can tell, Hirose don't sell the connector as separate piece, just the cable assemblies.

I bought a few of the cables from Digitalconnection.com, and they work great. Don't seem that robust, but at the price, you can buy several and keep spares around. Actually, now that I look at it, you can buy those cables complete cheaper than buying the connector parts. . . .

FWIW - Specialized Communications sells D4 to component cables. They are a huge Panasonic authorized repair center. They sell both the Panny factory cables & a well built aftermarket cable in 3 lengths - 1, 2 & 3 meters. All other Panny parts are available &/or warranty repair. Great service, great people, very easy to deal with.

Did anything come out of this thread ??

I contacted Nemal about making a custom D4 to Component cable with BNC plugs. I wanted a much shorter cable with BNC to use with an onboard Marshall monitor. The guy dealing with it said he's away for 2 weeks, but he's going to discuss it with me when he gets back. Not sure about cost yet.

I wondered if anyone else would be interested so we can order a decent amount and perhaps reduce the unit cost. If anyone is interested please PM me so I have your email and I'll let you know what he says. Also what length would you be looking for? Initially I have settled on between 18"-20", working with the monitor either mounted on a Noga arm on the right hand side or on the camera hot shoe.
