Anyone here quit social media?

Any filmmakers here that have quit social media? If so, how are you finding it? Has it hurt your work in any way?

Since some on here have nit-picked and consider this site and other message boards/forums social-media, I'm presuming you mean Facebook, twitter, instagram, etc. So, for what it's worth, I've never been an active participant in those social media channels(occasionally pictures of me end up in others posts, but I do not have my own accounts), and I don't think it has hurt my business. Of course, having never participated, I can't say with 100% certainty that business would be different one way or the other, but I'm still alive and kicking and shooting without it.

I’m on FB but my “filmmaking” page gets next to no traffic and I don’t update much. I have had at least one job from someone saying found my samples on that page but I can’t imagine if I did close those accounts/pages it would much affect my work at all.

Some of the wedding guys post their trailers and stuff on their clients’ walls so all THEIR (the clients) friends see the work, and are able to generate some business that way.

I get that. I know still photogs that post stuff to social media all the time. One still guy would post a couple of pics to twitter every weekend from one of the professional sporting events we covered and he said he'd usually end up with at least one shoot during the week, because of it.

I guess it kind of depends on your target client base, really. Most of the clients I work for aren't searching the internet for shooters. They either already know you, know of you or have had you recommended to them by someone they already know and trust.

I DO get a fair amount of traffic who "search the internet for shooters", but very little of it comes through/because of Facebook.

Social media can be helpful for shares to friends and family to generate awareness - sometimes a friend of a friend owns a business or start up - etc.

But outside of that I rarely use social media. All notifications off, very infrequent checks or postings, and I'm better off for it (at least personally). Those who got in on instagram early and have 40k+ followers definitely were able to leverage that for both acquisition of some cool work and opportunities, and brand image, but personal guesstimation seems to be that that trend is fading as Instagram becomes inundated with paid ads and culture seems to keep losing interest in FB/insta platforms.
