Anyone heard of this?

Hi all,
I just wanted to ask because I am usually no sound guy but, a friend just gave me a Sennhiezer EW100 G2 wireless mic. When I turn it on, the mic & the receiver pack link up immediately. Both digital screens are showing a sound reading. I get a full bar on the RF bar & then AF bar on both the mic & receiver are clearly in sync. The frequencies & channels are showing the exact same numbers.

The problem is, that if I should scan for a better frequency, the 2 parts un-sync. Then if I try to just put it back to its original sync, the receiver is just dead. There is no RF reading & clearly the AF bar is not reading it either. No matter what I do to scan for it or whatever, it wont sync back up unless I shut the units off, let it sit for an hour or so & then turn it back on & it will sync up on its own again.

Has anyone experienced this before or i it something Im not doing? Any sound experts out there that know what's up with this. I asked 1 friend who has done some sound for TV shows but never heard of this problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

There is no provision in this system for the transmitter to automatically find a new frequency once you've auto-scanned on the receiver. You have to manually set the transmitter to the new frequency.

Yeah I know, I tried that. we went through it & tried to set a new frequency but it still wouldn't register it. it wont sync. I literally have to shut it off, wait & then when I turn it back on after a while it is synced up. If i try to shut it off & turn it back on right away it doesn't work. if it sits for a while, it just does it on its own. The sound guy that was helping me said he's never seen anything like it.

check the pilot tone setting.

that's the only thing that could be faulty or causing something like this... because a receiver is a receiver... if the transmitter says 656.000 and the receiver says 656.000 the ONLY thing that could possibly cause any error (which would be nuts, never heard of it) is the pilot tone.

the G2 scans for holes, not transmitters. Do the scan with the transmitter OFF... then pick a hole (setting) and set the transmitter to the same number.

Yes we did this. We tried about everything. 1 thing I noticed at the bottom of the receiver, it says "Pilot" and to the right of that it says "Mute". On the Mic, it just says Pilot. I don't think this is the issue but could it be? Is it muted or something?

The mute on the transmitter is a hard switch... it's either turned to mute or it isn't. On the receiver mute means that the receiver will mute the signal if it loses the pilot... so instead of sizzle you get silence... which is usually preferable anyway... especially if you have some redundancy.

I dont know the G2's..
but years ago when i used the older Sony's..when you changed freq's
you had to power the unit down and back up when you found the freq you wanted for it to take effect.
