Anyone heard of or use Carvin?

Does anyone know if this company's products are any good for sound recording/studio work? What about their speakers for post?

carvin.com

How about how they compare to others? Just looking for the best VALUE, not necessarily the best money can buy, as that's always trumped within 3-6 months anyway.

Ooooo...good question. Didn't even know Carvin made studio equipment. I always liked their guitar amps...

Anyone tried 'em?

I certainly like the $400/pair part. :-)

Dan

They're alright and nothing special.. I don't really like them because their sound gear is a bit too pricey for me. Look into Events, Maudio, Mackie, etc. They sound better and cheaper than Carvin products. Do your research and you make your final decision. With my budget I with with the Maudios BX5 studio monitors. For subs I have the ESI 3000. cheap and does the job I need.

I used a Carvin bass guitar setup for years, very cool. Never used their studio stuff though.

(So I guess I haven't helped at all unless you want to play bass aside from the fact that their stuff is well built, never had any trouble and I abused it regularly)

Carver is both manufacturer and retailer of their product, for the most part. I wouldn't make any assumptions there, but not many stores would probably carry their sound re-enforcement equipment considering other options. Carver does quite a bit of sales direct to non-profits, but otherwise I'm not too familiar with their clientele. There are much better products out there in general and probably at similarly competitive prices. I know very little about their current offerings, besides that other brands are often preferred.

A friend of mine loves his Carver electric guitar, though... And, he's played on some pretty big Christian albums with it as well.......

Huh? $400/pair isn't a good price? The Mackies I want are between $500 and $600 (and I think that is EACH...but the catalog is vague...).

And...happy happy me...the multi-voltage means I don't have to decide whether to buy a 120vac pair or a 220vac.

Now, if I can only get the %*@$! ordering system to work...it doesn't like my APO address. :(

Ah. Yes. I've decided to buy them. If they'll let me.

Dan

i don't know about the quality of their studio gear but as a company they are very respectable. as mentioned earlier you buy direct from carvin which i think is wonderful. i have a carvin 4x12 cab that i use for my acoustic guitar and i absolutely love it.

Just ordered my set. Had to ship it to Mom, and she'll re-ship it to me. :(

So...won't be able to tell anyone how good/bad they are for almost a Month, most likely.

But...since my "studio" will be a room with a hardwood floor and blankets hanging from the concrete walls, they'll probably be good enough. :)

Dan

Bummer. First on backorder, now an email saying they are no longer available. No powered monitors available at all of any sort. :(

Oh well.

Dan

Yes, well, I'm nowhere near the point where I can justify spending 1/3 the cost of the camera on a pair of near-field monitors. :-)

Bad enough I keep looking at the 503/525 Bogen setup and saying to myself "Hmmm...why couldn't I just glue the camera to the top of a 2x4?"
