anyone having trouble with HVX remote zoom port?

i have had two bebob zoe's shipped to me and niether of them worked with my camera. it appears i have a bad port. has anyone else had this problem?

I have heard of others with this problem, but I have been fortunate to not have it.
Some say it is just not inserted fully, but maybe I heard of this about 5 times so....
 
I've only tried it with our Varizoom, but ours works fine. Great product by the way. I would have guessed the wrong version controller also???
