Hey everyone. It's been a long time. I'm about to bring my 4 x 2.5 GHz G5 QUAD to an Apple Genius Bar in CT. The machine began overheating about a year ago but since it doesn't see that much use I didn't take care of it until now. It still has the same problem: When doing processor intensive work like rednering in After Effects, compressing in Compressor or even working in Final Cut Pro, the machine will seize up and go into sleep mode. Sometime it will just shutdown. Every time though, the interior overheat LED comes on.
I've cleaned the interior of the box and even blown a box fan on it to get through big renders but it still crashes. The only time it doesn't is when the machine is bumped down to two processors and then it works fine but the machine begins to run really slow. I'm also finding overall the machine seems slow even when not overheating.
Has anyone had this issue who has brought it to Apple. I'm thinking about bringing it in and wondering what others have gone through. Thanks in advance!
