Anyone have any useless talents?

Soory for the long rant but that hit a nerve...

Funny. The town I live in has no use for anything creative. It's Factory work or nothing. I've never even, and I swear, have ever met anyone personally that even know what 3D is (apart from family). I've played the shorts I've worked on for people and...nothing. No response. Then they delve into something like "hey, ju hear bout johnny getting fired haha..." blah blah.

I tried playing (band) in bars here starting off and ya know, no on gave us the time of day. Got booked into Toronto and other big cities and they loved us.
We'd pack em solid and the money went from 6 to 800 bucks to 4K a gig.

Came back after a few years and...nothing. Same ol ****.

Moral of this story is...sometimes, it's just where you live.

I lived in mid-Florida before moving back here to LA. There was a civic theatre there and I was in a play. I had asked for time off from my shi*ty job and was able to get Friday and Saturday off, but was scheduled on Sunday from 7am to about noon. The curtain call was at 2pm. I asked how come I couldn't get Sunday off and my boss said it wouldn't be fair to anyone else. The then asked what's more important, being in a play or my job... I think I laughed in his face...

I'm so glad I don't live in that shi*ty little town anymore...
 
This talent is not that useless. I can watch anyone operate any piece of electronic gear once, have them turn it off, then I can repeat their exact steps to the final result. I don't know why or how I can do this. But I stink a memory games and puzzles. I remember when I was working at the Hit Factory, RZA from Wu-tang came in with this prototype beat machine with no instructions, no labeling and no manufacturer to look up online. He sat it down in front me and in 20 minutes I was teaching him how to use it. This ONLY pertains to electronic devices though. strange.
 
Hey filthrich I kind of have a similar "talent", for as long as I can remember I have always been able to set the time on almost any electronic timer, the hardest one was an electronic watch with only 1 button, somehow I can always figure it out.

Not to mention VHS timer recordings, for some reason I have yet to fail to program a workng VHS system (without the manual).

It also extents to just about any electronic device, somehow I just figure what each button does.

Electronic Centeral heating systems, digital cordless phones (with crappy one line aphanumerical LCD display, oi what a pain), and so on..

I have to 'join' this club too...if it's electronic, I just know how to work it. This is a curse though (as I'm sure you guys get this too) because everyone I know calls me to help install & set-up any new gear they get...or install their new plasma and surround sound...or update their computer...set those blinking clocks...program remotes...program phones...you name it.:crybaby:

...but it's nice to be useful!:)
