Anyone have a set of stainless rails and a caliper?

I'm ordering some metric 15mm stainless tube for some rails I'm building. I have to order the tubing from a supplier and can't check it out in person. I'm not sure how thick of a wall to order and would like to know what the wall thickness is on some of the ones out there. Don't want to get too thin of a wall, but don't want it overkill and add a ton of extra weight. If someone could let me know the wall thickness, that would be terrific.

I have some stainless tubes. The problem your going to have is the OD is about 14.7mm and not 15. 15mm OD will be a tight fit in anything you try to mount to to them. This is the reason rails are so expensive, they have to buy rod and machine the OD down.

The wall thickness is very thing on mine though, about half a millimeter.

So are you saying actual commercial camera rails are 14.7mm instead of 15mm or that the tubing you can buy is 14.7 and won't fit commercial 15mm blocks/accesories?

The holes the rails fit through are 15mm ID, so the rails have to be a tiny bit less or they wont slide through. This is the reason arri and zacuto charge stupid amounts for their rails, they have to be machined down from 15 or 16mm OD.... I am at the moment looking at the feasibility of making and selling cheaper rails by turning down the OD of aluminum tube, as I dont really like paying £80 for two ten inch bits of aluminum.

Gotcha, thanks for the info. I'm making my own rail system, but wanted to stay as close to the standard as possible.
