Anyone have a good sub for Kino lamps?

Hi all:

In the past two days, I have had three different Kino KF55 lamps burn out. I think I may have a bad batch or has anyone else been experiencing this? They seem to get darker in the middle of the lamp, then the middle goes out, then the whole lamp goes dead eventually. Kind of bumming me out since they are $22.00 ea. and should last a long time. These were all brand new lamps with less than 30 minutes on each.

They have done this on three different fixtures, used in three different locations so I am pretty sure it's not the fixtures.

Does anyone have any good substitutes for Kino lamps for the Divas? Need daylight and 3200k ideally.

Thanks,

Dan

The GE lamps work great, I'm going to see if I can find their specs with the rental house!

They're called Biax, studioline, I guess!

I've had good luck with the high CRI daylight tubes I get at my local hardware store for about $7 each.

Dan are the 3 different fixtures Kino's or are they the ones you made yourself?
Could this have a bearing on the short life span of the Kino tubes?

Hi Ozduc:

One Kino, one homemade and one Chinese Fotodiox T-400. That's what is weird. If I could narrow it down to one fixture, it would make sense but on three different ones?

Thanks,

Dan

It really sounds like a bad batch of globes. Have you looked at date codes to confirm that they are from the same manufacturing run?

Very strange. I'm still working with my original set of K55 and K29 biax tubes for over a year. You should phone Kino tomorrow and get them to send replacements. Kino doesn't list a bulb life, but I'd expect something on the order of at *least* a couple thousand hours.

Yeah that does sound strange.
