Anyone firmiliar with The Canterbury Tales?

Anyone have a copy of this book that has the Parson's Tale in it? Every single copy I find either has it removed, or a very brief overview of it.

That pisses me off! In my edition it says that the translator doesn't feel that it would hold any interest to the common reader. So he didn't bother putting it in. Shouldn't that be the reader's decision? >:(

Re: Anyone firmiliar with The Canterbury Tales?

I've found it online before, but I just really want a copy of the book w/o it taken out.

Know what I mean?

Oooh, good call. Thanks dis!

Re: Anyone firmiliar with The Canterbury Tales?

Well if you need more help, I may be able to help you out, we just finished that part in british lit. I think I still have the papers.

Well good luck in your search.

Re: Anyone firmiliar with The Canterbury Tales?

Did you have a physical copy of the book?

Re: Anyone firmiliar with The Canterbury Tales?

I remember reading that book in High School. I was assigned to present the part about the dude farting on a wheel. :D

Re: Anyone firmiliar with The Canterbury Tales?

Ahh yes, Reeve's Tale. :D

I'm jealous, I never got to read it in highschool. Great book though.

Re: Anyone firmiliar with The Canterbury Tales?

Classic.

I don't have any copies of the Canterbury tales these days, but loved it as a youth.

Chauser is amazing at portraying slices of medieval life to modern readers. Remember, the dude was writing 775 years ago or so.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Re: Anyone firmiliar with The Canterbury Tales?

TC, I think I've got a copy that contains that tale. I majored in English Lit and have a billion copies of just about every important work from the Medieval and Ren. periods. They're at home though, so I'll have to check this evening and get back to you. You want Old English, or translated?

Re: Anyone firmiliar with The Canterbury Tales?

Chaucer rocks!

I particuarily enjoyed the fictional portrayal of Chaucer in "A Knights Tale." Great stuff!

Re: Anyone firmiliar with The Canterbury Tales?

Yes that was an entertaining characterization. He's an interesting historical figure.  If memory serves he was a bit of a diplomat and government fuctionary as well as a writer.  I think he also had an on and off feud with the reigning king (Edward III?) that may have led to his death...  But I'm not sure.

Re: Anyone firmiliar with The Canterbury Tales?

I wouldn't be at all surprised to hear that. Writers with opinions often didn't fare well with those in power ::)

I would prefer Old English, and if you found a translated one as well I would love to know which one it is.

Re: Anyone firmiliar with The Canterbury Tales?

Sorry TC. Out of all of my copies of Caterbury Tales I have the Introduction to the Parson's (translated and in Old English) and then just a synopsis of it.

I guess it's time for a trip to Barnes and Noble. :)

Re: Anyone firmiliar with The Canterbury Tales?

That's where I went! They've got no edition with the Parson's Tale in it.

It has to be some sort of conspiracy or something.

Buns and Newbile. (As Jello Biafra would say.)
