The Apex line of microphones is aimed primarily at distributors who have music store clients that need a price point alternative to radio shack mics.
Do they pass sound? Yes. Will they get sound on tape? Yes.
These mics are generally created for those on a very tight budget who are just getting going OR who don't really know there is a difference from one mic to the rest. I used to keep a few in the show case for the kids who were just starting off in bands.
These mics are made primarily for garage band kids for live sound.
If you are shooting with a DVX, my advice would be to stay away from the lower end mic lines, like Apex, for recording. It's like putting retread tires on a Corvette. It'll work to some degree, but it won't give performance equal to the quality of the camera. Further, sound quality is HALF the impact of the production.
Stay with the big boys: Audio Technica, Sennheiser, AKG, AUDIX, Shure, EV, CAD, Rhode, et al, and you won't regret it.
By the way, eventhough CAD is not a household word like the others, they probably have the best value, meaning lowest price for the highest quality.
It's good you're asking questions before you buy. Nobody knows all this stuff when they're born.
