Anyone ever film ( Music Video ) in Puerto Rico ?

Not 100% concrete, but I might have a project coming up in Puerto Rico. Not a huge budget ( actually very minimal ) It's more of an opportunity for me to get paid while I learn and get this nice production credit. The only money I would be making is very minimal and just like a normal day rate.

The plus side of things though is my airfare is covered, so is hotels and all expenses. Now my apologies if I went slightly off topic there but I just needed to say a little something about me.

Now to the REAL topic at hand, I will be filming a music video with my Canon HDSLR
( t2i ). We have the nice locations, models, etc. But my question honestly is what do I need technically to make this happen?

I know for sure I should look into a nice Nd filter and possibly a Zacuto view finder as I know the sun will be blazing.
I'm thinking I should get a long focal lens ( as of now I own nothing past 50mm ).

Basically if people here in the community can give me any advice or tips it would be greatly appreciated. Here are some examples of some rough ideas that I think are really cool.

Never shot there but vacationed there last year and From what I can remember It was really amazing. The Rum is especially good.....I think.

Haha, that's great to know. I actually feel comfortable and very confident in myself to do the job so that's no problem at all. My questions really were what technical limitations if any would I encounter.

I am slightly concerned for any shots that we would do indoors or at night as obviously me traveling with my light kit is out of the question ( I think ). Maybe I should rent the fastest low light lens available or will my 50mm 1.8 be enough?

I actually never like shooting below f/2.2 as the focus area becomes something very difficult and personally I do not like it. Maybe I can bring a couple of LED battery powered lights if anything? Just thinking out loud here people.

I know for sure I would get a zoom though, maybe also get a car mount for my camera to mount on any vehicle ( you never know ).
Regardless I will come back to this thread later today and hopefully more experienced users can contribute to this thread

Thanks

What type of video are you doing? Mansion, models, cars----Narrative, Performance,----Interior, Exterior or Both? Need a little more info.

This is not a good mind set. You didn't pick the location, they did. Them paying for your airfare and hotel is not a favor they are doing to you by a necessity to get the job done. Sure it's Puerto Rico but it's not like you will get to enjoy any of it, cause you gonna be working. You gonna fly in, scout the locations, make arrangements with the rental place, next day you will shoot, then 3rd day return the gear and fly out.

You should be getting 3x you rate, or if its a low budgeter at least 1x you rate for the shoot day and 2x half-rate for the travel. Anything less and you are letting them rape you in the place where the sun does not shine.

I am actually going to be speaking to the artist this week, but as of now it's just basically capturing the vacation trip on camera and creating a music video with the location as the main theme. So we will be on a hotel at the beach. Shots can include traveling from the States on an airplane, then your shots out of the window, a shot arriving at the airport showing the location.

On the way to the Hotel, arriving at the hotel, hotel room performance overlooking the scene, beach area , woman, then traveling the city, etc. Basically they just want to capture the island and have the artist perform throughout the stay. So this can be anything from car rides, horse rides, boat rides, walking, etc. Day or Night.

I understand your concern Patryk but why are you so hostile? As a young director/camera man I think this is a great opportunity for me. You can throw me in the middle of nowhere and I can create a project, this is what I do and why my talent has been recognized.

Your concern though on me getting paid extra I agree with and also not knowing exactly what will happen I agree with you as well. My post is more of just asking the community on what would be the basic things they would need if they were doing a project like this.

If I can go and film for 2-3 days , put money in my pocket , have all expenses paid , and gain even more experience than I see no reason why I should not do it. So please people do not criticize how I get work or the job done. Working any normal job it would take me 3+ weeks to make this kind of money, so if I can make it in 1 week and learn and perfect my craft to be able to get more money than I will do it.

Please back on topic

Thank you

I'm trying to put extra money in your pocket by not letting them tell you that they are doing your a favor for flying you in an you call me hostile???????????

This is not all expenses paid vacation but a serious physically demanding 12h/day work you are engaging in. Yes, fun work, but work never-the-less.

Ok thank you. Now I film on a dslr so I'm not sure if you are familiar with their workflow but in the even that you are and me stating the possible conditions and things I would want to shoot can you please give me some tips or ideas on what you would do in that situation?

ps. Regarding the hostile comment and you wanting me to get paid is fine, just know that I am doing what I can to provide for my family. In many instances you will always want more money, but when in need of a job and money you must take what comes along. So while yes it can be hard and long 12 hour days, if I can make the money to pay all of my months bills then this is what I must do.
