Anyone else here have Stomach Ulcers?

Mines just got the best of me at age twenty-three. I developed them at fourteen back in Georgia, but never really got treatment for them... I hate hospitals.

After a night in the emergency room this past weekend, some morphine and some Vicodin, I am officialy going to get the treatment necessary to keep them at bay.

I've learned a few things in dealing:

I shouldn't put off health problems... how will I ever enjoy life if I'm dead?

Shouldn't stress over what I can't control... and that's almost nothing. Chill out, sit on the beach, just learn to be alive sometimes.

And lastly-- Vicodin is the shiet.

I got them in college.

Luckily i decided not to suffer through it and got treatment.

Haven't had a relapse yet.

And yes Vicodin is pretty narly.

My recent endoscpoy was horrible. You have to understand, my wife has given birth to three babies, I know pain, but the camera down the gullet was very unpleasant. Let me put it this way: you know how when you go in for a "procedure" you have your highest hopes and your worst fears? Well, most of the time it's not as bad as you think.

This was WORSE, then my worse fears.

But I survived.

Good Luck.

Did they sedate you? You're the first person to report a negative experience.

I know that they said I'd be sedated, so that my gag reflex wouldn't be active or whatever... and it's supposed to be this tiny little tube or something.

How long ago did you get it done?

What about the camera down the throat?

Luckily i didn't have to endure that.

My treatment was easy since i went to seek help almost as soon as i felt something wrong. (I'll be damned if i was going to deal with that pain more than 2 days) And they prescribed Tagamet which patched me up in just a couple of months.

I hope they can do the same for you too.

Me too. =(

I'm going to the G.I Doctor this thursday. They just pre-warned me of the camera down the throat trick... but maybe I won't have to.

my esophagus exploded (ruptured) due to an unknown ulcer there two years ago,
http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=56107&highlight=Esophagus

I was in intensive care for 4 days after loosing two pints of blood.

I had no pain or symptoms before I started vomiting blood the night I went to the ER (other than black poop that morning) and still had no discomfort once I started vomiting. If I hadn't gone to the ER I would have bled to death in my sleep.

the culprits?
stress
a few aspirin and one beer the night before
but mostly ... when the doctors asked how long I had had a bottle of tums or rolaids in my car, in my bag, at my desk at work, in the bathroom, and at my bedside ... I couldn't answer ... 10 years maybe?

that stuff is crap, it makes stomach acid WORSE while relieving the symptoms ... the more you take, the worse the problem is that you took them for despite the fact that your discomfort is temporarily relieved.

Dude, you know what I didn't know? That aspirin basically helps ulcers devour you.

I had been taking advil ritually recently because of an eye problem. Ibruprofen as well *800mg* ...

And Tea? I think I drank like four gallons over a two week time period. That's what got them really started.

I am also taking Protonix for my stomach acid, so I take Vicodin and Protonix at the same time.

Glad to know you made it out fine, though. I was beginning to get pretty scared in the ER.

Kholi I wish you all the best in your treatment.

Thanks, Angrius. I'll be fine, though. I've been dealing without meds for like ten years... I think I can go a few more days. =P

OK Kholi, here's my experience:

I first had a test where they put a thin tube in my nose down my throat, to test the muscle strength of my esophogus. That test you do solo (no meds or numbing agents) and it was most unpleasant. It made me puke (luckily you fast before hand so it was dry heaves). It was irritating, and lasted what seemed like forever. Now understand, I'm a 6'4" 275 lbs 30-year-old father of three... and I cried. It sucked.

Then I had to wait for the docter to arrive for the endoscopy. They got me in the room and put some drug in my IV to "calm me down" for the procedure. I hate feeling "not in control" so this drug doesn't calm me down, but makes me more anxious. I end up not only fighting the stress of having a tube shoved in my mouth, but also not feeling "myself." Now this may be fine for most, but it bugs the hell out of me.

Then the doctor came in. No "hello", just starts spraying this stuff down my throat that burned like mad. It killed, I wanted to swallow, he said, "don't swallow it" so of course I did just then. He then gave me another burst and got started.

The tube, is not small. I felt it scrape and pop down my throat. It was very uncomfortable. After he looked around (which didn't take long, thank goodness) he then stuck another tube down there with a device called a Bravo that is "pinned" (no joke) to the inside of my esophogus to measure the amount of acid. The next two weeks, every time I ate, it hurt like something was ripping it's way through my chest. Go to my blog, to see a picture and description of what it felt like. http://ipeedalittle.blogspot.com/2006/05/crack.html

Anyway, I had it done a couple months ago, and I feel fine now. I was also told by several nurses and doctors that what I experienced was "rare", most people... it's not as bad. So, now that I"m finished with this, I realized I have probably scared the crap out of you, and I shouldn't post it...

Oh well.

My dad had a bleeding ulcer. He kept everything inside. I decided not to be like
that. Whatever emotion I have at the moment, I just feel it. Don't mask it,
run from it, drown it, numb it, nah... I choose to feel.

Ulcer? I have an 18 yr-old daughter! Does that count?

Truthfully, I was put on Nexium for a few months to prevent a mild one from getting worse. But I dont know how the doc could know for sure if I had one since I had no edoscopic procedure. He made the diagnosis based on symptoms I described. But Nexium calmed everything down well enough so that things healed up nicely. No problems now. :)

Good Luck!

Glad to hear it.

I hope I just get put on some meds or something. That'd be great.

Im 17 and last year i had a peptic ulcer and i spit blood all over the girl who sat next to me in chemistry. She had asked me the answer to a problem on a test and when i turned my head to tell her the answer i opened my mouth and sprayed the poor terrified girl with blood. I found out later it was from stress which is hard for me to believe because im a pretty chill person but reguardless treatment for those suck ass and best of luck to you man. I hate doctors and hospitals too.

I have a story myself.

I was 15 (im 25 now) and one night i started getting these EXTREMLY painfull stomach pains. So bad i couldnt even move most of the time. I told my mom and she didnt really believe me, but after about 3 months of me telling her i wasnt sleeping and getting these pains she decided to take me to the doctor.
I get to the doctor and he doesnt really believe me. He sends me home.
Fast foward about 5 years of EXTREME pain, no sleeping, and now i was getting the pain in the middle of the day. A night comes up where i wake up in the same pain, but this time i get up to go to the bathroom and end up throwing up 3 times FAST. All blood. I pass out.
I come to and manage to drag myself to my moms room. I end up in the hospital and get the one of the most painfull things done to me. They stick a tube down my nose, into my stomach, and im awake with no medication! it hurt soooooo bad!
after that i get the camera down to my stomach, which isnt bad at all cuz they medicate you. After a night of all that they tell me i MIGHT have an ulcer.
The next 5 years is me taking medication that has no effect at all, and i end up in the hospital again for something unrelated, but they decide to run all those test again :(. and i get the same story.
A few months ago i get the test again! 3rd time! and they find something. They said they found some bacteria and gave me some antibiotics to take for a week.
A week passes and the pains are finally gone.
10 years of mind numbing pain. And i found out i might have gotten it from something i ate 10 years ago.

anyone notice a pattern here? bet we have a lot of people who's tendency to internalize what is going on around them has fed their creativity and given them the occasional stomach problem.

btw, my peptic ulcer issues first surfaced at age 17 when I was taking advil for shin splints. now age 34, i have managed to get better at letting things go, but things flare up in times of transition.

best of luck with your appointment and future health.

Yeah the camera down the throat sucks... just be glad your doctor doesn't shoot with a DVX...

...on that subject I'm surprised somebody hasn't asked you to post footage yet.

Okay in all seriousness I can totally relate to the health issues and yes it does suck big time... I hope you get it sorted.
