Anyone editing DVCPRO HD with FCP?
I will be getting the HVX200 and was wondering what
a typical set-up would run (G5, FCP, etc) to
edit DVCPRO HD footage.
Thanks
I do. Running Dual chip G5 with about 4GB ram, & Kona2 card. The Kona2 is about $2k but well worth it. It has hardware acceleration, up&down convert, etc. But, it's really only necessary if you'll be using pro decks (sdi, etc)
Hello kai,
In future I might be editing some HDCAM material.
I do want the ability to go back to tape either DVCPRO HD or
HDCAM. There is a local rental house just 5 miles away that I can rent decks from. I have been PC based forever. I do have a certain amount of agency clients that ask about FCP.
That's about the same workflow we use. We have a small selection of HD decks in house, but we haven't done a 100% HD switchover yet, so the majority of them are just standard def digibeta, D5, etc. So, when the HD decks are in use or something we just rent one for a few days. Give FCP a try, I think you'll be pleased.
Forgive my ignorance here but what exactly would be the purpose of the Kona 2 card?
If you can just hook the HVX up to the computer via firewire, load the clips from the P2 into final cut, and edit, what would be the advantages of this card? Do you need need this to load DVCPRO-HD?
