thanks guys.
my understanding of the OMF is that it wraps all individual audio clip information into the file while keeping them separate. so if you had for example the following sequence of clips:
clip1: Bart!! Why you--
clip2: --ackkkk --ackkk--
clip3: --Homer, leave him alone!
the audio mixer in pro tools using the OMF could extend clip1's dialogue to include, "What you little--" for a better mix.
If i rendered it all out as single audio file, the mixer would be extremely limited. It makes sense the way he described it to me...thanks again for your help. Going to see if i can export EDL from Premiere and reconstruct the whole thing in FCP or Avid Media Composer- 2 apps that can export as OMF...
