Anyone created a 24fps progressive dvd?

We do 24p DVDs all the time, shooting 24pA on the DVX or HVX (or 24pN on the HVX), edited in Vegas and exported to a DVD Architect 24p MPEG-2 file. Then you just drag & drop that MPEG onto a DVD Architect project and it all just... works...

Works in PAL DVD players too. 24P DVD appears to be a universal worldwide (SD) distribution format.

hi.. i'm a bit confused here.

Isn't the dvd supposed to be of interlaced ? As everything comes out in SD CRT TV is interlaced. So dvd also interlace ?

Or is there an option to set to progressive as for the use of newer type of progressive LCD TVs ?

So how would it show in those old type CRT TV ? The DVD player will convert to interlace ?

DVDs can be authored as 24P progressive, and always have supported that.

The DVD player can convert the 24p file into 60i for output to an interlaced TV, or the newer generation of progressive DVD players can actually pass the progressive signal out, unmodified, to a progressive television.

hi sorry for re opening this thread but can anyone tell me if 25p is a legal dvd format.(in pal land) . using canon hx-a1 record 25f ..edit and produce sd 16x9 25p dvd..it works in my player but im nervous about compatability problems on other players and how the footage will look on crt televisions that arent progressive scan. sorry if this is a dumb first post question

thanks for the reply..so i take it i would render the 25p footage as 50 i..but then i would loose the benefits of progressive scan...do you know if commercial dvds are 24p or 25p in PAL land.or are they 50i !.for your info i'm filming a dance show soon and i would like to film in 25f because the test footage ive filmed so far looks so good but selling 200 dvds that wont play scares me.
The reason i would lke to use progressive is because so many people now have large lcd and plasma screen tvs.

Barry,

I did just that, I exported a mpeg 2 with the DVD architect 24p settings, Filmed in 24p, and edited in 24p in vegas, then when in DVD arcitect, (4.5), It says that it must re-compress the file when I go to burn it, it says the reason is because 24p not supported, and it must re-compress as 29 frams per second.

Is this normal, and will it play as a 24p on DVD?

(edit) : I think I figured out the problem... I purchased Dvd architect studio 4.5 ... there is a Pro version that supports 24p...

what about DVDpro form the FCP suite 2.0?

I have tried inporting a 24pA "squeeze" mode file edited in FCP on a 23.97 timeline into DVDPro4 on the FCP Suite2.0, and it always shows up as a 29.98 file for some reason. I have read in some other posts that this is just a bug, it's really actually using the 23.97 setting, but how do you really know? How can you 100% know? I exported from FCP as 16x9 progressive, is that correct, or do I not have to specify? If the DVD has no problem playing 24P, why does it not show it as such?

I read somewhere that it displays the 29.98 because of the pulldown removal, but I think that is just a BS explanation. You are the guru so please clarify this for me.
