The audio conversion software needed to convert PPRO audio files to OMF files so that Pro Tools can be used.... is nothing less than a crime. That dam Duck program is soooo expensive!!

I can't believe they are in conjunction with PPRO to extort consumers out of more money for a simple plug in that should come with PPRO or be reasonalby priced.

$ 500 for a dam 9MB program????

INSANE AND UNFAIR. PPRO is designed for us to purchase these plug ins. This is BAIT and SWITCH tactics. Sure, PPRO is great, when you cough up all the extra money you need to make it really work.

Anybody out there want to go in on a purchase??? I'm in Redondo Beach.

Dam PPRO software designers!!! pay, pay and pay for results.

I doubt you are going to get anyone to post that they are willing to rip off a software maker in a post. Just bite the bullet and buy the software.

Are you sure you need it for your project ?

How many tracks and how long are they ?

ProTools can import more than just OMF files.

Put a synch PIP on each track ( synched to the 2 on the Leader) and export them individually.

Hope this helps

Too many tracks... about 2400 cuts, feature film.

I guess I will bit the bullet. BUT it's not me that is attempting to rip off a software company... it is the SOFTWARE company ripping off the consumer with a lousy 9 MB simple program that we must purchase for $ 500!!!!

PPRO is laughing at us all!!!! Like buying a new car, and oh.... did you want tires with it also?

Shame on PPRO creators for taking advantage, AND using Automatic Duck as the PATSY.

If my film makes it in Sundance, I will not acknowledge or promote PPRO software.

but for now.... I must drain my bank account yet another $ 500 for a point, click and download of a lousy plug in that should've been a standard feature with the software.

Its got nothing to do with Adobe (or PremPro) at all. It is a plug in written and provided by an independent software company for avery limited market of users. Adobe would not know or care who needs it or who uses it. The alternative would be to include a lot of expensive plug ins so that no one could afford the program in the first place.

Wait till you pay for your Dolby Encoding fees or do you expect Adobe to have provided that in the application as well . ;-)

anyway...I am sure you will get value out of the OMF exporter ( which by the way is less than 7mbs). Just the fact that you can export to Protools where it will separate the Premiere tracks to L/R tracks automatically ( each prem audio track becomes two in Protools) is a huge time saver. (Time is money)

NB : you need to create Mono tracks for Dolby encoding and this is so much easier in Protools as you will find.

Bite the bullet and by the time you are onto your second feature, you will have forgotten about it.

Adobe is in bed with Automatic Duck. They share the same web site and Adobe refers clients to Automatic Duck thru the adobe website.
Adobe must be getting a "piece of the pie" from AutoDuck for this type of support and reference. I wouldn't be suprised if Adobe owned Duck to begin with.

Adobe knows the plug in is needed, but doesn't offer it because Duck can generate real funds by providing the "much needed" plug in.

Need tires for that new car on the lot? It's the same concept. It's all predesigned before the product is even offered to the public.

Here's the software.... oh , and we won't tell you now... but later....
you'll need to buy this... and this.... oh, and you'll need this also......

$$$$$ in their pockets.

But you are right, if my film sells, the costs are pennies.... it's just now it really sucks to Indy's like me trying to complete their flics before Sundance.

It's NOT the same thing. You are the only one complaining about it and I've only heard one other person on this forum looking for the solution this plug-in solves.
EVERYONE would be complaining about the "tires".

Shooter is right - If Adobe tried to include EVERY possible feature that EVERY possible user MAY require, it would cost a fortune and it would be 5 years between updates.

"They share the same website" and that site would be what ?

"Adobe knows that the plug in is needed" How do you figure that ??? Who needs it ?

BTW - I hate to tell you this but the OMF Importer is basically a plug in to Protools as well. It requires a certain app installed to interpret the OMF's

Another suggestion:
Why not buy Audition and do your own mix. You dont have to mix in a cross platform application like ProTools.

Can I ask this again: The 2400 cuts are over how many tracks in your project ?

Interesting thread. PimpDaddyDA, I understand your frustration, but let me try to provide an alternate view from our (Automatic Duck's) side...

We saw a need for users like you to get their audio from Premiere Pro to DAWs like Pro Tools, so we invested an enormous amount of time and resources to develop a plug-in solution. Before Premiere Pro had decent color correction built-in there were plug-in companies making plug-ins to do that. There is always a user need that isn't being met, so there will be plug-in companies to come in and try to fill the gap. And yes, we sell this solution, because we hope to recover at least some of our investment. You're not paying for a 7 or 9MB download so much as you're paying a very small slice of the research and development we've already spent to get to where we are.

As Sirius_Doggy points out, not everyone needs this solution, likely a reason why this feature has not hit Adobe's feature list yet. I'd say it is more important for them to focus on more important aspects of improving the app, like maybe doing subclips, showing source timecode information for clips in the timeline, a media databasing system like Avid's, for a more intuitive way to find commands and keyboard shortcuts... Premiere Pro is improving, but is still only a 1.5 application and there's a lot it needs.

Should Premiere Pro have OMF export "built-in"? Probably. It would certainly help users like yourself feel like Premiere Pro is finally a full-on professional package. But until such time we have a solution to offer you. You certainly have other options, Audition has been mentioned, you could export your tracks as WAV files, but you're a pro working on a film, you probably want our plug-in.

I am also interested to know what web site we share with Adobe.

Just some thoughts from my side, thanks for the topic.

wplate - An unofficial welcome to the forum. It's always great to see company reps here that REALLY know their products. You'll be added to a long list that includes Century Optics, Panasonic, Rush @ EVS, and I know I'm missing at least four or five others...(sorry guys, you know who you are...)

Carefull there Sirius.

The company reps that post here don't hide behind a username (ie: wplate), they use their real name, and include links to their company etc.

They don't post anonymously, as "wplate".:embarasse

True Pookie - But how do we REALLY know that the Bill Turner that post here REALLY works for Century Optics? Just because he says he does?
Maybe wplate could update his sig and user info and then we'd all be "believers"?
Sometimes you just have to have a little internet faith.

How do we really know that you know anything about steadicams? Just because you say you do?

That is his name actually (W.Plate ) and it is him.... so rest easy pookie.

So much paranoia around these days ...jeez

Sounds like another sales rep backing up his product.

Take a look at this page on the adobe website. Clearly, Adobe is in bed w/Duck. Yes, I know everybody has to make a buck in this world, but notice how all the vital plugins are very expensive, and the simple fluff plugins are reasonably priced. This was all set up during the development of the software. We, the consumers, are always being led around with a piece of cheese on a string.

Following your logic I guess Canopus, 2d3, Digital Film Tools, Profound Effects, etc, etc, etc are all in bed with Adobe.
You really need to lighten up a bit.
