i'm looking to get a macbook pro soon but didnt realize the maximum hard drive space was 200GB...how much space on the hard drive does FCP studio take up by itself? is there anyway to expand the hard drive space? (trying to avoid lugging around external hard drives)

FCP doesn't take up too much space... it is the livetype fonts, motion content, and dvd sp templates that take up a lot of space. if you can sacrifice some of those, then you'll have plenty of space.

I have the entire studio installed sans (minus) the garage band jam pack add ons (20gb+) and the DVD SP themes, and the Motion content. Keep those off the HDD and its not that big at all. NOt in the slightest. Wingnuts is much larger, LOL.

Im on a macbook pro core 2 duo with the 120gb drive. THe 200gb would be nice, but its slower than the normal dives in them. Soundtrack pro and garageband share loops by the way.

You can expand the hard drive by placing a hard drive in the CD/DVD drive bay if you dont need access to that, or you can wait for bigger drives in the 2.5" size and install as they become available.

Bus powered USB drives are also available. 160gb for around 160 bucks i beleive.

What does "Motion" actually do in FCP?

I hear a lot of talk about it but I am not clear on what it does..

Is it really that great?

yea, i read that the 160/120GB HDD's were faster. so, if you want to add sound effects from soundtrack pro do u jus carry you rdisk full of loops with you or do you not use it that much??

i have it and havent really used it but i hear people get a lot of use out of it. i think it's more for motion graphics, but not quite as flexible or powerful as after effects.

i'd like to see some examples of projects where somebody's used Motion to get an idea of the types of things u can do.
