Anybody own one of these keyboards?

Re: Anybody own one of these keyboards?

I've seen 'em for less.  Personally, I think it would be helpful if you're trying to wean yourself from the mouse and take a keyboard-only (or keyboard-mostly) approach to editing.  Eliminates the need to check the manual or reference card while you're memorizing the hotkeys.

And let's face it, it looks pretty cool.  And though it shouldn't count for anything, we all know it does.

Re: Anybody own one of these keyboards?

hmm no scrubber on that. if you want colored keys EVS sells an overlay for 15 bucks i think.

Re: Anybody own one of these keyboards?

Thanks for the replies guys. Mediamogul that sounds best.

Re: Anybody own one of these keyboards?

Tony, I own the Shuttle Express by Contour Design... Each time I use it I tr to convince me that it really works well because I want to justify my buy, but... it does'nt work that great :

For Capture: pain in the *ss. I use the dvx has a vcr since I can't afford a miniDV VCR for now, and when using the vegas scrubber the response is fairly fast (fairly), but when using the ShutleExpress, maybe becuase it is a hardware device I expect a fast reaction and it is slow. Plus, Vegas Capture does'nt react nicely, often I want to slowly ffw or rwd and it begins to ffw or rwd full throttle (even if I slightly rotate the shuttle express jog)

For Editing: I realise that I'm not seeking that often in the timeline, I prefer to zoom out (time), click somewhere, drag until I find the right spot, zoom in there, select, play...

Where it could be more useful would be to put markers and mark the IN and the OUT of a selection... BUT, it looks good on my desk and when "non-video editing iniated" people come in my office I always get a "woa nice device dude, damn you're well equiped" hehehe

TheAmPro, about this keyboard, well do you use keyboard shortcuts often in Vegas ? I mapped the "S" key (or was it default assigned to that) to SPLIT, which I use a lot, but for the rest, spacebar, arrows, delete, ctrl+z....quite obvious keys that doesnt need a special color, IMHO. I have been a software developer for 4 years before getting in the audio/video production/post and I was an extensive keyboard user... As a coder, you hate that mouse, you want things as fast as it can be, and the keyboard is the answer. But for video editing, especially with Vegas with its friendly user interface, I surprisingly find the mouse really "optimal". But it's just by my opinion...

Re: Anybody own one of these keyboards?

I use the mouse a lot also! I was wondering if it was THAT useful. Thanks Styves

[/quote]Whoa, lol... I think you may have just saved me about $50. That really sucks though because I want it and I want it to work well! Is there any possibility that your computer is too slow for it? Just curious if I should totally write it off or reserve some hope.

Re: Anybody own one of these keyboards?

p4 2.6 hyperthreaded 1gb ram ddr400...the slow reaction time is not due to the computer but using the dvx100a as a VCR...I haven't tried but maybe using a true miniDV vcr it would be faster...I also have a sony trv-320 (digital8 not miniDV) and with this camera the reaction time is a little bit faster. I'm all talking about the capture here.. About controlling the timeline, there is no speed issue, just that I don't scrub a lot during editing, well not that way (as I explained above)

I always capture all my video first and then start editing. Thanks for the clairification

Well I thought that when you pay 1000$ and more for a dv-vcr, the response time would be faster, for exemple, the tape is playing foward and you press RWD, I guess the rwd starts immediatly, you don't wait like with the dvx for a slow mechanism that reverse the motor direction (I don't really know how it works btw). I may be wrong...

Re: Anybody own one of these keyboards?

My deck is usually pretty responsive. Never used the DVX as a VTR to compare speeds, but if it's as slow as you say, the deck's a lot quicker.

Re: Anybody own one of these keyboards?

I have a beige Worldtech Vegas keyboard. got it direct from Worldtech. $88 isn't too bad a price for it. I really like mine. The Worldteck guys are great too, they got me beige when they only had black in stock pretty quick and e-mailed me to see if I got it promptly and that it worked properly.

:D
