Anybody know any tutorials geared towards Music video editing?

trying to get into doing music videos and been looking around for any techniques/tutorials and cant really find any so I was seeing if any of you know of any music video editing tutorials out there ala video copilot and creative cow etc..

ALSO if you also know of 3d tutorials built strictly around TEXT with either 3ds max or cinema 4d and can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it!!

Thanks in advance..

I agree with DJ on the video comment. You can really do anything with a music video. I have done tons of them in many different styles. Mostly Hip-hop, so that mostly entailed Cars, Strippers, Money and Truck Jewerly. As far as 3D text, Video Co-pilot has quite a few of tutorials on that.

I'm talking more editing techniques fellas.. editing like when a snare rolls in a song and the cuts are , like, automated to roll footage in perfect sync, your pans and zooms done in post, etc.. just basic Editing techniques geared more towards music videos..

That clears things up a bit. Cutting any footage to series of beats is basic editing stuff that I would do by hand in FCP, There may be an easier way to do this but I would just place markers in the time line and cut and slide until I get it lined up perfectly. Pans and zooms in post can be done a variety of different ways. But even that is pretty basic editing. I really could not direct you any tutorials on things like this except may a lynda.com or similar site.

Or you could just watch a bunch of music videos they will give you the best lesson. I watched a lot of "making of..." on youtube and mtv to get better at it as well. good luck. Music videos are so much fun, most of the time.

After Effects is not the place you would do this, then.

Play the song in your editor and tap the marker button to the beat or at snare hits or a vocal que or whatever. then just cut to those markers, tightening them up where you were sloppy.
If you need to go faster than you can tap then use the razor tool. Once youve edited enough you get a feel for how long a slice will be long enough cut. I suggest doing a bunch of 'throw away projects' to get a better feel for editing. Like riding a bike or playing the guitar after a while it becomes automatic.
