Anybody ever use a flashlight?

I am on a very limited budget and i need an on camera light. Has anyone tried attaching a small flashlight to your camera? if so how did your footage turn out?

Lol, that would be funny to see. Kinda like a DVX miner person.

Ugh, try and get the brightest flashlight as possible, and get a little soft box for it, or just tape a thin piece of paper over it to lessen the bright areas on your subject.

The problem with most flashlights are the 'rings' from the lenses in the flashlight. That'll look really weird when you see it on film, and very apparent that someone is shining a flashlight at the other person's face. In this respect I'd say LED lights are better, but they normally have some ridiculous blue tinge that'll look weird too. I'd suggest attempting to rig a small lamp to a battery solution or something, if you have to go the ghetto route.

I actually have a few flashlights in my "lighting kit". I have some vellum paper over the front to give the light some nice diffusion (and it makes those rings go away). Great for wide close-ups.

ive stuck a mini mag light in my dvx's mic holder before. worked ok. i sanded the clear plastic lens to diffuse. only did this in a pinch.
