I think kickstart is one of the best if not the best way to fund your project if you don't have a producers (or sponsors) to do it.

I think it's worth mentioning that you need to have your film's LLC set up if you're accepting donations. Seems like a no-brainer, but some people just go out there and start asking for donations.

check this link and scroll down a bit to "first winter" - good example of a film that will be funded via kickstarter. Its a good read too, especially knowing first hand how things get "done" in the burg.
