Anybody else get furloughed from their job due to Coronavirus?

1. First, toilet paper. i don't understand why people don't just buy a $30 bidet from amazon if they are worried. Bidets are the best, anyway. TMI? I think not. Bidet for life, my friends.

2. Jobs. Yeah. This sucks, I'm a little worried. I flew home from Indonesia early on my own volition - client and I mutually cancelled. The footage I was sent to get was drying up, everyone wearing masks and hiding inside, closed facilities, etc. Got out just before they closed Bali to foreigners and closed Taiwan borders. Yes, you can still LEAVE Bali, and yes, you can still transit THROUGH Taiwan. But EVA Air started cancelling flights left and right. Doesn't matter if you can technically transit through if the commercial flight options evaporate, and things are just getting crazier by the day.

So where does that leave me? Well, its leave me with one pack of toilet paper, a bidet, and wondering where I'm going to find any new work for a while. I guess I'll catch up on stock footage as I'm woefully behind and try to edit a bunch of loose ends, redo my contract, website which is older than Moses, etc. But who knows how long this will last? We can only sustain so long burning into savings. I'd go work on a passion project, but then, we can't really all be working together under self quarantine.

Part of me wants to run out and get COVID on purpose, then self isolate, so I become immune until next year, than I can at least go about business without worries of infecting anyone. Who knows, maybe I already have it from flying all over the world and am one of the asymptomatic ones. At least Half Life Alyx VR comes out this week, good time to disappear for a while without any guilt!

Welcome back. This is still the big question. Does contracting Covid-19 result in immunity like some other flus? I've tried to find an answer to it and all I've been able to dig up is that several patients in China who recovered (i.e. tested negative twice in a row) were later tested again and found to be infected. Whether that was the result of a new infection or a lingering viral presence from their first infection isn't clear.

There's a good chance that this one mutates and getting it is no guarantee you won't get it again.

I'm not sure - when the tests become available, those with immunity will have a real advantage in jobs. Tonights news - our Government are going to cover 80% of the salary of people who cannot work. So my son, sent home initially for 4 weeks on zero pay, will (should) now get 80% of his money from the Government. No doubt they'll have to recoup it over the years as extra tax, but here, so many people have lost their jobs. Me - I still won't get anything. In fact - there is s small chance I can get £73 a week, but I have to wait 4 weeks after an interview, and of course you can't get an interview!

I do hope this is a joke (and not a funny one). If its not a joke, this is a very dangerous mindset.
I was considering infecting myself and then traveling to Syria to infect the ISIS infidels. Death to Syria. God is most great!

If 60% or more of Americans are going to get the virus, even spread out over the course of a year and a half, 200 million infected Americans compared to the currently very small 15,000 U.S. cases, now would be a WAY better time to get infected than any other time during the next year and a half in terms of being able to receive medical care if needed. Just do the math, if the virus lasts a month in a person and a vaccine is 18 months out, 200 million Americans, that's 11 million people infected in a given month on average, compared to 15,000 now.

That said, there are too many variable at the moment for intentionally infecting to be considered wise, such as, it remains to be seen what percentage of the population actually contracts the virus, how deadly it is, if one can get infected again after having it, etc.

I do wonder how "flatten the curve" is so beneficial when comparing 11 million people at once to say 30 million people at once. Over capacity is over capacity, so if capacity is one million then I'm unclear on how 30 million one month and 5 million the next few months is worse than 11 million per month if the hospitals are over capacity regardless of whether the curve gets flattened or not.

Getting the virus can lead to permanent lung damage. And we don't know what else.

This isn't the chicken pox, where moms will frequently hold a party whenever they find someone's kid has chicken pox.

And as said, there's no guarantee that getting it will make you immune.

Getting the virus can lead to permanent lung damage. And we don't know what else.
That's a bit vague, though. Lots of things can lead to permanent lung damage to unnoticeably small or large degrees, and "can" is another of those vague statistics that doesn't hold much weight on its own.

If statistics come out showing a high percentage of recoveries still have lifelong lung damage to an extent that it will have a noticeably detrimental effect on the rest of a person's life, then that would be more telling. We're still in the not sure how bad this virus is stage at the moment.

Well that's the point - can and may are all the things we can say right now because we don't know the full extent yet. The fact that they have already done studies that show permanent lung damage in "recovered" patients is enough for me to decide that I would prefer to avoid getting this virus until we at least know for sure.

Just to be clear....is the conversation about:

1) Do everything you can to avoid this potentially deadly virus and do your part as a human not to endanger the lives of people for as long as possible.

2) Intentionally go out and give yourself a deadly virus that you, and most doctors, know very little about...then if you live, wait for the symptoms to go away then go on about your daily life in public assuming you can not still give it to others or contract it again (and could be completely wrong about both)...while at the same time (potentially) giving yourself permanent damage.

I just want to understand exactly what is being said. I could have misunderstood what people are saying.

Yeah, that's what this conversation is about. Which part did you not understand?

This is how I would word replies to clients reaching out...

Hi [name of client],

Thanks for reaching out! I’m available then and would be happy to do the shoot! Below are a couple options of my base rates per day depending on which camera package you’d like, the mid-range Canon C300 Mark II or the high end Arri Amira.

Also, I contracted Coronavirus five weeks ago and fully recovered last week, so in hiring me you can rest assured that I will not come down with or pass on Coronavirus to yourself or any of the crew. As such, the rates below reflect a 2x normal rate increase to cover the risks and suffering I took in intentionally contracting the virus. I hope you understand as I'm sure that your company values the safety of the crew enough to budget in these additional charges rather than hiring from crew that has not built up immunity through contracting and recovering and thus can put everyone at much higher risk.

Oh goodness, what have I started? To be clear self infecting was said tongue in cheek. I wore gloves and an N95 respirator everywhere flying home. I’m holed up in self quarantine for weeks, still disinfecting everything around me and actively discouraging people from going out and about.

There is a rationale line of thought behind it - intentional infection to gain immunity was proposed as UK’s leading strategy. It’s also more likely than not that you will gain temporary immunity to the virus after contracting based on what they know now; the reinfection cases in China were very limited and unconfirmed, they also think it was a relapse and not a full recovery. Lung damage occurred in 30% of patients out of a sample size of 12, all of which had COVID serious enough to require initial lung scans to begin with. So this is all conjecture.

That said, definitely said tongue in cheek, coming from the notion of how taxing the whole situation is on
multiple levels. In reality I whole heartedly agree that complete avoidance is absolutely preferable as we really have no idea what we’re dealing with and may not for a while. Chronic conditions are a possibility best avoided.

All future jobs are canceled here in Bucharest. From Monday they will close the city, army is building a hospital outside the city. Will do food delivery on my bike to put food on the table in the next period.

Here in Ca., we are on total lockdown by state order. So there literally is nothing we can do to make money unless it's from home only.

I shot a video last night that I am editing today for a friend who has a quick solution for overflow patient isolation rooms so I flouted the stay at home rule and drove to his warehouse to shoot the video last night. We were very careful about distancing ourselves as I shot it
and I'm editing it today so he can show County and State Health officials who are needing to implement more beds and patient isolation as this thing ramps up. No money but it feels better to do something to help my community than to sit around fretting over no income.

I discovered that Amazon is still hiring locally here, I think they are falling under "essential services" but working there is taking a big chance at much more exposure so I am on the fence. They are paying $18.00 per hour until 04/30 so it's tempting, making a grand or two beats making literally nothing, but it's
a risk too. Any of you coming up with ways to make money being stuck at home?

MERS and SARS antibodies disappear over time, they are in the same family as SARS-COV-2 which causes COVID-19.
So there is reason to believe that immunity is temporary.

Right, and there is reason to believe that may be the only path forward if we fail to contain. Talking to medical providers here and they are on 2 weeks max of PPE. Concern of staff strikes who won’t work without protection, and those who do getting sick. So it may come to it that the only way forward is stopping the spread with those who survive being temporarily immune and wait for the vaccine. Hoping it doesn’t come to that. I wish we’d all been more extreme like Taiwan from the start.

I’m eating very lightly here in hopes I don’t even need to revisit Costco - id prefer to not go out at all, now. We’ll see what happens.

For work, my plan is pour all my time into stock footage, rebranding, and tie up loose ends with edits.

The function of lockdowns is to mitigate medical logistical disasters not to make the virus go away. The virus is here to stay!
Hopefully, it is seasonal or goes dormant for periods, or that dominant and future strains become more benign.

We can't "hide in the caves" forever and eventually, we have to face the virus, all we can do now is to make sure that those for whom the virus is dangerous don't get sick all at the same time.
