Any Web Programmers?? I need Help!

What type of login are you looking to implement? The easiest is the grey box that pops up asking for a username and password.

What type of webserver is your site running on?

Instead of coding this yourself, you may want to look for a packaged/premade solution. It will be quicker, cheaper, and better than what you could teach yourself in a few days.

Tommy is (I'm guessing) hoping that you're using Apache as your webserver which has a basic authentication mechanism. Which could very well work for your situation. Info at: http://httpd.apache.org/docs/1.3/howto/auth.html

What is the best solution for you is also dependent on what your requirements are. What is each client's section going to have?

I'm running my website on a linux server from a hosting company.
The Login page will contain just some basic information to the client about the status of their projects as well as amount still owed on their invoicing.
No real personal or critical informtion.

I will check out that program you gave me the link to.

Any more advice?

Sounds like it's more than just a password protected area. You're probably better off trying one of those open source scripts. It will make your life much easier...

I have no clue how to even start using those. I opened it up, but it was a bunch of files I have no idea what to do.

I am pretty good at building a website just no the programing end of things.

Any advice or information on how to make this work? I don't know where to start.

fyi, the link I gave will not work for your situation.

I'm not familiar with Miniman's suggestion but it looks like it has potential.

If it were me... (which doesn't really apply, since this is what I do for a living), I would build a php page that would do a lookup from a file.

You would edit the file with a plain text editor and store the user name, password, and directory.

Your login page would be PHP, which would submit the form to itself. The page would then load the username line and test the password entered against that. If it was correct, the page listed in the text file would be loaded. If not, then the page would return with an error.

The other one i linked to also needs a Mysql database, everything uses them now adays, Most hosts will give you 10+ Databases.

Well, I have PhP setup on my sever, but I don't have MySql. Guess I have to pay extra for it.

I'm still looking for solution that will work easy without a lot of trouble.

I basicly just need one page for each client that will just give an update of the project when I update the page. They can use their password and get in.

Hmmmm........

Well, back to designing the site for now. Any other programs or advice?

Hi, i checked the aplus.net website to see what control panel they use and they are not using cpanel (the most popular control panel out there) but they do have the ability to protect a directory. If all you need is a basic protection, what i would do is create a folder for each client that you want to limit access to and put their files into their folder and just protect that folder so that they would need to input a uid/pw to access it. That is the easiest way. Hope this helps.
