Any way to export w/out rendering in Vegas?

I'm trying to remove the 24p Advanced pulldown in Vegas in order to export the footage and then edit in Premiere 6.5 at 24fps.

Vegas successfully removes the pulldown upon opening the clips but I have not found an option to export and save in the 24p mode without rendering.

Does anyone know if there is a way to export without rendering?

Alternatively, what are the best settings if I must render to get the footage backout in 24p mode (for editing in Premiere)? I used the Indeo & Cinepak codec and was able to export at 24fps but the resulting footage looked horrible. I rendered with no compression and rcvd good results but the files are too big. The NTSC DV codec looks nice but won't let me use 24fps.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Okay, first a question -- if you have access to Vegas, why on earth would you want to edit in Premiere 6.5? Vegas is a staggeringly superior editor to Premiere 6.5. If it's just a learning curve issue, do yourself a big favor and take the time to learn Vegas -- you will never look back.

But, if you have some reason for needing to use Premiere, I believe the only way to do it is through Quicktime. DVFilm Maker software allows for pulldown removal/discard so that you can end up with a 24p Quicktime DV file that's suitable for editing with Premiere. I don't know if Vegas can output a 24p pulldown-free Quicktime, maybe it can. If not, you can just get DVFilm Maker and use it to do what you want.

Barry, I thought I've heard that DVFilm Maker will cut the resolution of your footage. And, if tsukune's going to have to render (Quicktime requires rendering), why not just do it to an AVI. Can't Premiere (a PC based software), accept/import AVI files?

If you're trying to use it to turn 60i footage into a simulated 24p, yes it would involve some loss of resolution. But that's not all the program does. They were one of the first developers to offer 24p support.

And no, DV in .AVI doesn't support 24fps, only 60i (including 24p within a 60i stream). And Premiere 6.5 can't deal with that. But Quicktime can apparently support raws 24p footage in a DV .mov.

Removing pulldown from a DV 24p .AVI and converting via DVFilm Maker over to a 24P DV Quicktime should be a lossless transition.

But it'll still be a lousy editing system, vs. just using Vegas! ;)

Thanks for the explaination, and love the extra little jab at the end.

Might be a jab, but it's also true . . .

(Why is the default position "you're just saying that because you use Vegas"? Why can't the default position be "you're using Vegas, so there must be a reason"?)

Preaching to the choir, Jubal28, preaching to the choir.

I've tried other NLE's, and have NEVER been able to do what I can with Vegas as quickly. I'm completely self taught, have never taken a class for anything to do with video/editing, let alone even watched someone else edit, and because of how EASY & powerful Vegas is to use, I now make REALLY good money on the side ... hopefully sooner than later it'll be consistant enough for full time, and I can ditch the business loan officer gig.

Thank you.

Thank you.

Thanks all for the replies. The reason I was not going to edit in Vegas was that I don't own the software. I downloaded the 30 day trial in order to attempt to remove the 24pA pulldown.

I was impressed with the interface but I just don't have the money now to invest in more software.

I've decided that the best route for me is to upgrade from Win2k to XP so I can install Premiere Pro 1.5 (I already had a copy but it doesn't run under Win2k) which I believe removes the pulldown during capture.

Thanks again!
