From when I was originally looking at FF's the FreshDV review of the indifocus kinda turned me off to then even though the price was more then friendly, but looking at there web site again, is the new FF they have night and day better than the old, It look much different with a new wheel and gear box, but is it a lot better than the old, the price is still very nice, I have been saving for a Cavision or a RR, but if this is a decent FF, I wouldnt mind saving the $$ for a field monitor..

thanks for any help!

i have the newest indifocus FF. it is not produced very precisely and it could, but i see no problems at all, you get a good product for an affordable price and there is no backlash in the gearbox, works as it should.

I have had a good experience with mine so far. Build quality is not as good as the others you mentioned, but it works very well. Depends on your application - are you pulling focus yourself most of the time, or are you working on bigger shoots where you have a 1st AC? If so, those guys might be used to higher quality gear, but they can work with the new indifocus. Keep in mind that the standard lens gear driver and lens gears are NOT .8 cine-pitch.

well I usually have a CO, and I usually pull focus because Im quite good at it. So it will be ither me doing it all or me being 1st AC, I am familiar with the RR, and have used it many times, but if this will do the trick I will put the extra $$$ towards a field monitor.

does anyone know if the upgraded the whips so they dont have to "wind up" like in the FreshDV review, are the more responsive "Stiffer" now? How much Play are you guys getting in the gearbox now?

Jon

I played with the whips when at Kwan's studio here in NYC. No play - worked great. The connection was a little sticky though.

Everything about the FreshDV review of the indiFOCUS is completely outdated - not sure if Tim has sent a new unit for evaluation.

I'm fairly skeptical about the "no play" claim. I've used the Chroziel and even that had just a bit of play in it. I got the new RR gearbox coming in and from what I know (and from the FreshDV review) that it has play in it as well.

It would be very helpful if someone can do a test to measure the amount of play on the IndiFocus unit and report back so that we have a qualitative basis for comparison.

Diddo, I wanted to say something more, but I didnt want to double post, please to you users that have this unit.
