Any suggestions?

I need to see if anyone has an idea of how to place an object like a poster or pictures behind a person(s) as they are walking back and forth. I would like to have the pictures fade in if at all possible and this seems like a roto/masking project in the making.
Anyone have suggestions on how I could go about it in AE? I have thought of a couple of things but nothing seems to turn out right.
Thanks!

What have you tried? Any clips of what you've done so far so we know what you're going for?

If your sequence is long, rotoscoping could become a huge headache. If your camera is stationary, you could conceivable achieve this fairly easily with a clean plate (background), and perhaps extracting the foreground character with a green-screen key.

You would only need to roto when they cross the posters. (and only the parts of the body that cross) Chosing camera angles to minize the crossing over will help.
You could place green poster board where the posters are supposed to go and get a key off of it.
If you have moving shots you'll have to do 4 point tracking and then corner pin the posters in.
If the shots are locked off you can just place them.

Thanks for the response Pais and Scott...That is the kind of brainstorming I need.
I do not have any footage to post because everything has been just random testing. I have tried to shoot a static background with the pictures in place and then overlay the static shot with the motion and bring the background layer up. This might work with the combined roto stuff. The only other problem is that the shot will probably be in motion not just static....

If anyone else has any thoughts please post away.

P.S. dj200423 - AE is a great program....download the demo from Adobe and mess around a little, you'll probably get hooked.
