Any problems editing on a Macbook?

I am most likely going to be taking the plunge into a nice Mac and FCP studio. I been using Vegas and PPRO but since they don't want to play with the big boys I guess Edius and FCP are my only options. Edius is a clunky program so FCP looks like the way to go.

I have always editing using 3 harddrives on a PC workstation so am wondering if it is really a good move to buy a (pimped out) Macbook Pro to edit my DVCPRO HD footage. Is only one harddrive good enough? Would it be better to use an extrernal firewire drive as a second disk for exporting my projects?

Your other options as well is Avid. I'm not a huge fan of it specifically but you said, "play with the big boys," and well Avid is certainly that. A much steeper learning curve though for the software depending upon your previous experiences. PPro is apparently FCP like in a lot of ways, so that might be the most natural way to go.

As for Macbook Pro, I'd certainly go all the way to 4 GB of ram. Especially if you want to get the most out of applications like Motion. Also won't hurt for FCP's sake either. As for the hard drives, I'd certainly want an external hard drive to edit with. Let the internal drive run your applications and use the external one for accessing/storing media. If you can swing it, a firewire 800 raided configuration box would be really good for you, especially with HD. I think G-Raid is one of the more popular "name" choices, but depending upon your local market, you could shop around for other deals.

cheers.
