Any pro screenwriters with MFA degrees ?

Anybody here know of any screenwriters (who have sold, who are professionals) who have an MFA degree in writing (Masters in Fine Arts, the terminal degree in writing, sort of like a PhD but in the arts)? I am asking because a friend of mine is thinking of getting an MFA, in part to have time and money to write. I know writing and selling a script requires no degree, only a great story well told, etc. So please let's not go down that road in this thread. Just trying to find out if there are pros with MFAs, because someone in the industry my friend knows said she does not know of any pros with MFAs.

Related, is there any way having the MFA in screenwriting could be a detriment to a career in screenwriting?

Randall,

Matt Lopez and Greg Marcks have an MFA from FSU, as do a number of television writers. I don't see how having an MFA specifically in Screenwriting could hurt your chances as far as work - but that's what I have and I'm currently trying to find work, so I'll report back to ya on that with some facts!

Good to know Lt Col, I pass your post on to my friend who is having a difficult time deciding whether to go for an MFA or not. He realizes it is not needed to learn screenwriting, but the situation is more complicated than just that.
