any one else here freelance ENG?

How do you freelance ENG? Sit by a radio scanner and wait for the cops to be dispatched, then show and start filming? :grin:

I did it for awhile before the local TV station got cheap. They had people in the news room who would listen to scanners and call me if it was close. I would run out and tape it and they would either pick it up or I'd drop it off. Sometimes I'd come across a wreck or see firetrucks . I'd follow them , tape it, then call the TV station. In the case of car or motorcycle crash the guy would ask,,,"anyone dead?" "Critical condition?" If not they would say no.
 
I freelance at the CBC once and awhile. Not my favorite way to get paid, but I take the calls if I am not up to anything. Them have a comfy couch in the shooters room, that helps.
