Any of you still photography fans?

I know film, video, and still photography go hand in hand. What do you guys shoot with? I'm looking for a new camera and wondered what you guys use?

I'd LOVE a digital rebel...man I use one every day...I WILL OWN ONE!!!

But for now I think I'm going to get a 35mm Rebel. Even though it's not digital, it's still nice to have manual focus (and soo much cheaper).

...SO...What do DVXUSER'S use for their still photos??

Re: Any of you still photography fans?

I use an old school pentax SLR camera...

Digital though would definitely be the way to go with still cameras... you can get a higher resolution than 35mm film... even low ISO ones...

Just the sheer resolution is awesome... and they're now putting better lenses and have better systems of storage on digitals now...

I've got a digital rebel -- and love it. Film's old. 10 rolls developed and your 1/10th of the way to the rebel AND a good lens!

Re: Any of you still photography fans?

I use a regular rebel. It's nice, but it's just a pain that it's not digital and you don't know immediately if your shot came out or not.

The d70 is nicer than the digital rebel by quite a bit, btw, but it's also more expenisve.

Re: Any of you still photography fans?

I use several cameras, I shoot beach weddings part time in OC MD. I have a Pentax ZX-50 (Film) but haven't used it since we switched to Canon EOS 10D. These things are pretty good. My wife used the Nikon D70 at a wedding this past weekend and loved it.

Film is so costly, to buy the film, get it processed, sort through all the pictures. We shoot, I edit in Photoshop, then we upload to Printroom.com, the customers choose what they want and Printroom handles it all.

Cool, Since I'm short on cash, I went with a Rebel. I know film is expensive, but FILM IS SOO MUCH BETTER THAN DIGITAL!!! ha JK ;)

Thanks for the input guys.

We can turn this thread into the "DREAM CAMERA" thread... ;D

I'll take one of these...

Re: Any of you still photography fans?

I want a D70. I don't like that canon insists on using servo lens controls, and I have a bunch of great 60's-70's nikkors that will still mate with a d70.

Re: Any of you still photography fans?

That's photo's what i'm using. Canon EOS 1Ds.

11 megapixels. Thing's a beast and takes gorgeous shots.

Re: Any of you still photography fans?

I gots the digital rebel. I already had a 24mm-85mm lens from my Elan film camera, so I just bought the digital rebel body.

So far, "I like it a lot".

Re: Any of you still photography fans?

I shoot on a Contax 167MT with good old Carl Zeiss lenses.  I shoot Fujichrome Velvia ISO 50 35mm Professional color slides for nature and landscapes.  The color is amazing, and it's one of the highest res films out there, if not, the highest resolution color slide you can get.  Digital has not YET reached the resolution of this film, (but it will soon, muhahaha!). If you've never shot a roll, I suggest you try it out. If you don't like film and haven't shot slides before, then try out some slides, and forget about crappy negative film.

Pretty soon I'm going for a Medium format camera for shooting God knows what, (or just for the high resolution, large negatives) and then I'll be buying a nice Digital SLR, so I'll be running around with a film camera and a digital at the same time!  AHHH!

Re: Any of you still photography fans?

The link I posted is the newest 16.7 megapixel cam, (is that the same camera you posted?) Anyway, Canon's been pretty impressive with their DSLRs.

Re: Any of you still photography fans?

Crap!! I still use a Nikon F100 and Hasselblad(Kodak HD film for negs, ProviaF for slide) for my still photo jobs cuz most of my money goes to my DVX/editing biz. Yup, still debating on what to get next, magiqcam stabilizer or 16x9mattebox, or another DVX. . .that sort of thing. I dont mind getting my film scanned to 20MB files(still more resolution than 6 megapixels and SUPERIOR color reproduction, with the exception of noise-fixable in Photoshop). 16 megapixels?! Too bad its a CANON(read other posts about there overpriced servo lenses and/or their DVX catch up cam--XL2). When will Nikon ever go past 6 megapixels?!

Re: Any of you still photography fans?

I've been using a Pentax 645 medium format SLR for about a year now and am absoluty loving it. I had always shot 35mm before, and I have access to quite a few Digital SLR's but the oldtime 645 blows them out of the water, except for the new Canon D1. I compared a shot that I did with that with a drum scanned imagage from my 645 and clarity wise, they were very very close. Color wise, film still wins, but the resolution is very close. However, with a 4grand pricetag, I'll stick to film as I have access to a great drum scanner and a Noritsu photo processor for free :) Lucky me. However, like it has been stated, digital is catching up, and will probably surpass film, except for archivability. Heck, I could get a 22 megapixel back for my 645 camera for like $90,000 and make wonderful digital picutures if I wanted. ;)
