AAAAAaaaaaaaaaaargh!!!

I'm going insane here. Does anyone know where I can get an 8GB P2 card?? My HVX is mocking me and all I can do with it in HD is capture live to firewire. Not a bad thing, I guess, but HD views out of my office window are a bit boring and the only other thing within range of computer and firewire cable is the cat mooning me from across the hall. ...I might post a sample of that though. ;)

I'm in the same boat. I think that you can find 4GB cards now, but I'm not going to spend my money on those. 8GB would last longer. I don't want to have to keep switching out P2 cards. I want to strictly shoot in HD and 4GB cards don't sound very useable in that mode.

I lied in my last post. I said I wouldn't buy 4GB P2 cards. I did buy one today because I want to start shooting (I'm sick of waiting). I get it on Friday. I bought it from EVS. I just can't stand to see that camera sitting in the corner doing nothing.

Hehe. I'm about to do the same thing... I'm waiting to see if B&H can ship me an 8GB card tomorrow. They're supposed to get some in, but don't know if they'll have enough to get me one (I hate waiting in line). Anyway, if they can't ship my card tomorrow, I'll probably buy a 4GB from EVS or Spec-Comm and I can have that on Monday. Oooooh, this is going to be a long weekend. :(

As I understand it, the 8GB cards aren't available until April...

Definitely check out EVS. Might want to also check with Zotz Digital in Oregon or Studio Exchange in Burbank (Ask for Brian at Zotz, Paul at Studio Exchange; Rush is absolutely great at EVS). All three are Panasonic authorized resellers.

Did EVS run out of the 8GB too?

Wanted: Panasonic 8GB P2 Card. Dark complexion, slim build. 'P2' tattoo. Enjoys HD and running in pairs. Only few months old. Last thought to be roaming somewhere between Japan and New York. Reward for any information leading to the capture of this elusive beast:

Yup early low-listers like Oz and Evinsky have gotten theirs. I hide them as soon as they come to the store and get them to the people who have had their orders in the system since last March.... :)

I would caution against 8 GB cards - in the absence of high capacity low cost archive solutions - we have decided to go wtih 4GB card since then nearly exactly fit on a low cost single sided dvd.

DVDs are not the best archiving solution but if you make it redundant on 2 different discs your data is secure.

just something to think about - shoot time isnt all you have to deal with

10 minutes - so 20 minutes for duplicated. on a narrative shoot that is plenty short to prepare for the next 11 minute card. but you would need a loaded or someone in another role also being a loader

By the time you can easily find an 8GB card for about 2K you will be able to get the FS-100 for about 2K and store 90mins instead of 8. I'll stick with 4GB and wait for the FS-100 due Mar-Apr 2006.
