Any kind souls in LA?

The firewire port on my HV20 isnt working and I need to capture 2 tape as soon as possible. Are there any kind souls in the LA or Ventura county area that would give me 2 hours of their time and let me use their HDV camera to capture?

If I was in LA and had a HV20, I would let you use it, if that makes you feel any better. Try craigslist and try searching myspace in your area for filmmakers, asking around if they know anyone with an HV20!

Offer to buy someone a meal or some coffee to increase your chances.
 
Kind souls cost $20/hr. minimum.

It's unskilled labor... but labor intensive. Trust me, I know... I've got my kind soul journeyman's card and I no longer do kind soul work for less then $50 to start.

YES, plugging it in and sitting there as it captures or transfers to the drive is strenous work. Be sure to bend at the knees as you plug in the firewire cord.

I think you already know this, but I was making a joke... and agreeing with you that yes, if you are asking a TOTAL STRANGER to come and do you a favor... you may want to offer more then "hey I'll think you were really neat for doing this"...


Do you know how many people ask me to make DVDs from VHS... or CD from old cassettes... and how hard is that? But if your time is worth nothing then more power to you... if you think about it... how hard is it to stand next to a camera shooting interviews all day... and yet that pays $300-500.

If my HV20 broke and I had to capture video... I'd go buy a cheapy cam... because I'm guessing this won't be the last time this guy needs to capture video. That's like borrowing a paint brush or something... dude, if your brush broke go get a new one... or a cheap one to get you by... otherwise... yes, I say you should solicit an exciting opportunity to risk victimhood via inviting strangers into your house from craigslist.
