Definitely stick with the AT897--it's a great value for a shotgun. The link you posted is some no-name mic that may be fine for snooping on the neighbors, but is probably a long way from broadcast quality.

OMG, those specs are horrible. And that is what they admit to.

Run, don't walk, back to the AT897 and apologize for ever considering cheating on her with this abomination. ;D

Just joking around but that mic is a total rip off. Choose just about any shotgun mic you can find at B&H, Coffey, FullCompass, Trew, etc for less than what they want for that mic and you will do better.

Good luck

I'll bet it sounds awesome with 120dB of gain pumping through it.

Riiiiiiiiggggghhhhttt...

Umm, yeah... would you jump on some no-name camera that boasted some odd special performance capabilities or would you trust a DVX instead?

When I was 16 I went to one of those stupid flea-market type merchandise shows and I bought a pair of speakers for my car that were supposed to be 1000w jobbies... Well they sounded like pure sh*t and I could have got something decent for about $20 more. Don't be fooled by crap like this.

Products like these are made for total suckers... P.I.'s don't even use stuff like this... WANNA' BE P.I.'s do! Cops and P.I.'s use mics like the Audio Technica 4071 for surveillance... and you know what? Sound professionals use that SAME 4071... For a first shotgun I wouldn't get a 4071, but I'm just saying...

Get a REAL, trusted, tested, commonly used, brand-name mic... You won't see any flashy banners on Audio Technica's site that say, "AMAZING SOUND AMPLIFICATION!"... but you know what? They COULD have that... and nobody would question it.
