Any Idea what the next format may be...

I know the standard now is MiniDV but does anyone see any other format on the horizon, and what are we all going to do with our DVX's if another format comes into existance....

Affordable HDV may be on the horizon. It's definitely High Definition of some sort...

And I'll be making as good movies as I can with my DVX. Unless of course I make it big by then and shoot 35mm...I can dream can't I?

Um, keep using 'em?

I was on the Penn & Teller show a few months ago: shot on Betacam SP. Betacam's technically obsolete, Sony doesn't even make Betacam cameras anymore, but that doesn't mean they're not still in use.

Worked on a gig for the Outdoor Life Network last week -- three Betacam SP cameras.

Sony's announced HDCAM, MPEG-IMX, BetacamSX, DVCAM, Digital Betacam, and probably some other formats since Betacam, trying to get people to replace it -- but shooters keep on shooting on BetaSP.

The DVX will be a viable option until standard-def television disappears. May not be the most cutting-edge thing available once HDV arrives, but it'll still be perfectly serviceable, just like Betacam still is today.

Not only that, but I bet until HD-DVD's are standard, we'll still like our Standard Def 24P camera, because it'll translate to DVD at full quality regardless...
