Is there any main script competitions out there now that project greenlight is no longer an option? Or are there any other decent profile companies that accept submissions?

Cruise said:Screenwriting contests are a cottage industry. There are many, many out there, some okay some not so great. You have to remember that there are a zillion hopefuls who think their script is the next Casablanca and get sucked in by these contests, but the grim reality is that good original scripts take lots of talent, enormous perserverence and luck before it will see the light of day. Competition is writhering and the chances of winning are next to nil Even the established screenwriters with credits and agents have a rough go of it.
I don't want to discourage anyone from writing. Go with that story that's been bouncing in your head for the last six months, but make sure you have 25 rewrites and lots of good feedback before you even think about entering any contests or peddling it.
The other thing you have to remember is that even if you do write the best screenplay of the last ten years, the people judging it are subjective. Most studios and screenwriting contests have readers who have piles to go through. If you don't grab them in the first two New York nano-seconds you're script is h i s t o r y.
And, finally, most astute experienced directors, producers and agents can separate the wheat from the chaff, but even they don't really know what's absolutely, positively going to make a great movie.
Hey, never promised you a rose garden. But, never no mind, if you have a story to tell, tell it and let the chips fall where they may. Who knows, people draw to inside straights alll the time and once in awhile they draw that magic card.
