i've have ZERO experience in purchasing...and using, ha!... lens filters. bizarre, i know... but hey, i'm straight out of college! anyway, the studio i'm working for is buying some new equipment, including two hvx200s. what would be some decent filters to use with the cameras? i'd like a screw-on filter... would a UV be the best? i'm scoping out the filter kit from CENTURY OPTICS, which includes a circular polarizer, black frost, and neutral density. the ND would be useless, since the HVX comes stock with 2 NDs, correct?

we're also thinking about a matte box. would i be able to use the screw-type filter with a matte box? i'm obviously a little confused as to which option will yeild the BEST video quality.

ANY info would be appreciated BIG TIME!

Each filter has it's own purpose so you can't really say what's the "best" filter in that regard. A UV filter is good for general lens protection and something you can keep on your camera at all times. Polarizers help to reduce glare and deepen the sky. Black frosts offer lens diffusion. Individual ND filters are much more preferred over the built in ND's. The built-in's are roughly 3 and 6 stops respectively which is often too much.

Filtration with a mattebox offers some added benefits like quick changes. Schneider/B+W brand filters make some of the best filters in terms of quality.

thanks for the reply! so can i keep a screw-type filter on while using a matte box, and additional filters? maybe keep a screw-type UV filter on the lens at all times, and a polarizer or ND 4x4 filter on the matte box... would that pose a problem?
