Any Film students in NYC?

Hey guys I'm a Senior in High School and I'm trying to film my short film (10 minutes in length) in New York City. However, I have an issue of getting a filming permit. I cannot afford to get a certificate of insurance. And my high school won't provide me any insurance because they're not affiliated with the mayor's office of film. So I need some help. Would there be any NYU, Columbia, or any other film students who would be able to get insurance from their school? I'm in desperate need. I will pay you. Please email me at shimmishizah@yahoo.com. Thank you.

Do what the rest of us do, steal the shots. Unless you got big explosions and car chases going on, you should be able to get away with stealing shots... I'm not saying it's the right thing to do, it's just what some of us indies gotta do, Guerilla style it.

I have to agree with capitalP. Is there a reason why you would specifically need a permit (i.e. you want a police escort for the production or you want to close off a specific street)? If not why not just shoot without one. As far as I know the proposed rules that would limit students/indie filmmakers from shooting in new york for free have not been implemented. Until then you are still allowed to film without a permit in the city. For more info check out pictureny.org.

As long as you are not drawing attention to yourself by holding up traffic or putting people in danger you should be fine.
