Any experience with Cool Lights?

I know the owner of cool lights is a sponsor so I'm not encouraging any brutal criticisms. But I'd like to hear opinions from people who own or have used Cool Lights products. Their Fresnel models look like Arri enclosures, are they the same construction? Are they close in quality? And their flos look very well put together. I'm just trying to get feedback from users on overall quality and performance. Thanks for any input.

While your waiting, you might try a search. We've had many long threads in here where we not only designed things in this forum but then got feedback from customers on how the final products were. Here's a few for instance:

Considering we've been sponsoring going on 20 months now there's quite a lot here if you just search the lighting forum and "cool lights" in advanced search.

I'll just save you the trouble and say that Cool Lights stuff are pretty awesome. I have one of their fluorescent and one CMD fixture and both works very well. The built quality is solid and the price is extremely affordable.

The only complaint I would make is that CL needs to improve the way the flourescent fixture mounts to the stand. I used to have the CL455 and that 22 lbs fixture was held to the stand by just a thin screw and wobbled dangerously. Then I upgraded to the lighter 455P and I found that the MAM yoke that they used was difficult to tighten and fit on to the stand head. There are some wobbling there too.

the cool lghts look good, I've been thinking about picking a couple up but the portable lights have neen sold out for some time

Richard any idea when there will be more in stock?

Yes! We're up at the factory now working on them. This is a big production cycle for us and we we're planning on end of September but that may slide a bit due to the LED panel which is talking so long and the 70w and 250w CDM models have a couple more issues to iron out.

cool led, pretty soon they may replace the flour lights, leds have a pretty good throw for there size and wattage, any chance of using them in a low watt hi lume, strong throw, low heat, fresnel? hmi power without hmi heat and weight would be awesome.

I think it will be a while before they replace the other types of fixture. For instance, it just wouldn't be economical to light a green screen with all LEDs. Fluorescents excel at that. And metal halide or tungsten project a cookie on the wall better than an LED can at least at this time. We'll need to get a really efficient high wattage LED in the 100w and higher range which can act as a single point light source for it to really replace a small wattage HMI one for one with no sacrifices.
