Re: Any DVXers on the Florida East Coast

I am not in FL but I have covered plenty of Hurricanes when I worked in Virginia Beach. Make sure you use a rain cover on the camera and you can even place a small trashbag over the rain cover to even more protect the camera. Keep dry paper towels in your coat pocket providing your wearing a waterproof coat or jacket. You could use a little chamois like you would use to dry your car off with. You would use that to clean water off the lens. I wouldnt recommend setting up any kind of lights unless you can set up in a way that you can use buildings or something else to cut down on wind. Use sandbags on lights and tripod and other equipment that could just blow away.

I have shot b-roll right in the middle of Hurricane Bonny and I didnt worry about lights except the one on the camera.

Above all, protect yourself out there if you have to be out there. If you dont have to be there then don't risk your life just for a shot.

Protect my equipment? I keep it wrapped in plastic, covered with a towel, zipped up in a well-padded tailgater's cooler on wheels and place it gently in the bomb shelter (I mean walk-in closet). haha! Not taking my baby out in this. I am currently right in the middle of our worst part of the weather here in North Florida, but I did go out and practice some DOF shots between rain bands. :) Just dont know how much longer I will have power so my batteries are all charged up...

Be safe!

Did you see where Jeanne just hit? I'm right there, I was going to post, but I lost power and internet...

BUT I'M BACK!

I have one of those indestructable, water proof, Pelican cases, it's been good to us. I did sleep with it during the last 3 storms!...then I realized it was covered under home owners insurance...

Hope everyone else in Florida is cool now. Good luck.
