Looking for other users in Japan. Anyone working and making a living with dv or media in Japan? We are slowly starting a small digital media home company. We do web and graphics now but would like to expand into doing more video. We are looking for some advice about how best to start and where some of the demand is.

If you are also a creative user in Japan we would love to hear from you. We are also trying to make our first documentaries and shorts and would love to exchange tips, ideas and just chat about film.

Hope to hear from you!!

We are located in Japan - in Tokyo specifically. Do you have a web site?

Re: Any DVX users in Japan

To you guys from Japan, I was wondering if you would know how to get in contact with any World War II Veterans, I am shooting a documentary and would love to get in touch with members of General Homma's Imperial 14th Army. I was told that they have a Veterans group in Japan so I'm curious. I would like to get a Japanese Veteran's side of the story.

Re: Any DVX users in Japan

I'm planing on staying there for a few months next summer (July to September). I'll be in the Tokyo area. I'd love to get in touch with some other filmmakers while i'm there. i'll have my DVX of course, I'm going to try and shoot something there. Not sure what yet :D

Re: Any DVX users in Japan

There are a number of people in Japan with an interest on Japanese vets from WW2. I would suggest you look for your contacts at Wasada University's history department. I would highly suggest you speak Japanese or get a native Japanese with the same interest. Japanese veterans groups tend to be very conservative and not disposed to talking about their experiences with foreigners.

As for hanging out in Tokyo during the summer be prepared to suffer the high humidity and heat. While the independent film community is diverse, it's not really very tight socially. You are welcome to look me up when you get here however. contact: ddh@gol.com

Re: Any DVX users in Japan

I plan on staying in Japan for a few months in the summer too. Unfortunately not till '06. I am going to be studying the Japanese language and culture in my college classes and do some independent studying on my own before I go.

I figure I'd lurk around Tokyo with my DVX, hopefully getting inspired and write a screenplay or make a short film. Who knows? I always wanted to live there though. Maybe I will someday when my language skills are good enough.

I'd settle with having some dumpy minimum wage job at a fish market to be able to live in such a beautiful city with friendly people and pursue my dreams of filmmaking.

Ah, youth! :)

I will say this, young Japanese actors are into working on indi films, so, you'll have lots of opportunities Super_Trooper to burnish you skills!

Hello. Happy New Year! Sorry to reply so late. We took a much needed break from the city.

DDH. I would love to get in touch and talk about your work here. We are just getting started on some projects and ideas and would love to hear your input. Also we are looking for other people who are into film to maybe get together now and then to talk about ideas etc...

I would love any information you have about reaching out to young Japanese talent. We are working on a short film idea and will be looking for actors sometime very soon. Please contact me.

About Vets. I agree that contacting the universities is the best way.

Code37films/Super_Trooper: Please let us know if you visit. We would be happy to meet up or show you around the city. I spent the first few months after I moved here running around the city shooting. Looking back at the footage there are so many things that were just amazing moments. Bring a lot of batteries and tape. I promise that time in Tokyo is VERY worth the trip.
