Any difference between MKH-416 amd MKH-416 P48U

what college you are going to so people can avoid the fiasco in audio education ?

scooby i know at least 4 regular 416s - p48u,p12u , t12u and t12u red dot ( for nagra 4.2) , all of them completely regular .
whats unregular is the education these guys get :-)

Well, I've actually been using my 416s and MK60s for three years at my college. I don't know if that stops me from being a novice but I'd rather get a 416 if I can find it used. Anywhere else with good prices aside from Ebay?

David - for the record, most 416's you'll see will operate from 12-48v phantom, and they've just left off all the tagging on the end like p48u etc, since thats a normal one. the only real thing you should watch for is if a microphone says 416T, as the T stands for T-Powered, which is different to phantom powering, and if you connent a T-Powered mic to phantom, or vice versa, the universe will cease to exist.

Thanks for the info Scooby.

Exile, might I ask what the point is making continued insulting posts? I'm glad you know more about mikes then I do. I'd give you a cookie if I could for your obvious superiority and prowes. I mainly do camera work myself but I'd still like to have a mike on hand. I'd rather risk asking a stupid question and recieving some insecure audio nerd's scorn than end up getting the wrong thing.

jut you are a good example for people who studding few years and using the mics without any basic knowledge -not to mention dud you could do some Google search on sennheiser site to see what is the 48 p stand for - or its to hard? .it wasn't your lucky day :-)

Do your audio skills impare your ability to speak English?

And I actually did do a google search. My question actually came from someone selling a P48U and saying it was "virtually identical to the 416s, just different packaging." I like to get a number of sources so I'm willing to ask at several different places.

Why you apparently feel the need to frequent a thread three times with no other purpose than being rude is beyond me. For someone who seems to think they know a lot don't you have better things to do with your time?

you must be new here not to know my english is much lower them your audio skills :-) but good for you i can get your southern accents ( even it ios hard )

ok i understand that you sow an add from another shmack who dont know anything about microphones - different packeg - what different package? - all the mics come with foam , clips and plastic box for the last 10 years .
and when you buy ask for serial number, its on the xlr plug - if its not there its A very hot mic :-)

since i just ended 50 days shot i have alot of time on my hands slap on your
a...
not to mention we( were i live ) are in the war so i am not in a good mood
move on - ask for better professors on your audio curs

For the record, I have an Eastern accent. I live in New Orleans but grew up around DC.

I really couldn't understand the rest of what you said in your post. I'll assume it was more polite than your others. Where exactly are your from?

the 416 is ok but there is a super good microphone that only the pro's know about and try not to share with amateurs because they can get some great deals on ebay because they don't want everyone to know and then the price will go up.

so goto ebay and look for it, it is a sennheiser its called the me-66

just don't tell too many of your friends at film school or word will get out and we will only be able to get the 416 or worse the sanken cs-3 or maybe even the schoeps cmit5u

In case anybody isn't up on current events, which if you haven't heard about it then you must be in a cabin in the mountains... but hezbollah and Israel have got a serious situation going on over there... it's a weird feeling, but I gotta' say I admire the Israelis for caring so much about their soldiers. I think after they JUST RECENTLY gave up the Gaza Strip in the spirit of the olive branch... that they feel insulted by the kidnappings.

The long and the short of it as it pertains to George is we should all hope for a speedy resolve that has him and his family safe.

As for the 416... the 416p48u is a more recent model designation... so that's the one I'd want to see. All you need to know is that the mic is phantom powered... there are ways to use a T powered mic, but it's so much easier to know you can run a mic directly from your DVX in case you ever need to.

Virtually all pro mics that you will encounter (condensers anyway) are phantom power (typically 48v... the standard)...

People also get cranky about the subject because new guys come in all the time asking the very exact same questions.

does anybody find this funny? "made in holly land" What kind of power is T power. I don't think I ever used it.

Holly is illness in Hebrew so this is double mining

few words about regular microphones to the DC accent guy :-)

T-Power is Tonader-Speisung,(german): Ton = sound, Ader =
vein/artery, and Speisung = power,supply...
A "Tonader" is actually the wiring to the microphone, the 2 wires
carry the audio and the +12,-12dc V-DC. The wires are named a+b, so they call it A-B-power too.
The accepted T power configuration is pin 2 + and in phase audio, pin 3 - and
outofphase audio, pin 1 an audio shield.

Red dot T power microphones for Nagra .
Nagra reversed the functions of pins 2 & 3, and so a phase-change lead was
inserted between the Nagra and the mic.
The "red dot" mics were made with the functions of pins 2 & 3 reversed, so
the the mic would work with Nagras as standard, & without the phase-change
lead.

T power allows a lot more current to be delivered to the microphone than
standard P48, so you can do things that require more current (like running
class A).

P48 gives you a high enough voltage that with a lot of externally-polarized
capsules you can use the phantom power to polarize them directly without
a DC-DC converter.

Hey, wait a minute Oleg! I'm confused. Did you let your guard down? You stated all of that in perfect english without any spelling or grammar errors. Have you been holding out on us? I liked trying to decipher your technical rants (and verbal spankings) in broken english. The problem is that I can still only understand half of what you're saying. :-)

P.S. to the moderator: I'm not really trying to encourage him.

ha ha! very funny....

Oleg, hope you and your family and friends get through this mid-east stuff safely and without trauma.

My. If you were this polite to me when I first asked the question, I'd love to see the kind of answers I get after I tell you I'm half Palestinian. :)

That's really nice of you man. I feel so special now. Like a member of a real exclusive club. And to think I was gonna blow my hard earned cash on a 416. I'm glad I can get the strait dope from good honest people such as yourself.
