Any Computer Guru's here?

Last week I accidently clicked something on my PC that made my fonts and everything else real small. Last night I was trying to get it back to normal size and I clicked something that just gives me a black blank screen now. No matter how many times I do the Control+Alt+Delete to reset the computer, I CAN see the screen when the computer starts up and goes through its little tests. I cannot see anything pass that like the Desktop.

What can I do to see the desktop again? Is there a way to reboot the entire computer system other than Control+Alt+delete?

What I did was right clicked an open area on my desktop to bring up several menu options. I think I clicked on active desktop then customize desktop. I was fooling around trying to adjust the screen size and usually it will ask you if you want to save the current settings and I would click no. But for some reason the last time I did this, it didn't ask me if I wanted to save, it just went to a black screen and I cannot see nothing.

I tried unplugging the monitor then hooking it back up and nothing, like I said I tried rebooting the system several times and again nothing. I don't know how to fix the issue.

Any suggestions?

Re: Any Computer Guru's here?

It sounds like you've mucked up your video driver settings. Try booting into safe mode (keep hitting F8 as you boot up). When you reach the safe boot windows screen, right click and try to reset your screen resolution setting to something that works. If you still have problems, you can reinstall your video drivers.

Re: Any Computer Guru's here?

I think what you did was set your display to something your monitor couldn’t handle.

Try what Barry said, but if that doesn’t work, adjust your horizontal and vertical (on your monitor) and make both as small as possible.

Re: Any Computer Guru's here?

Have you tried to start in 'safe mode'? When the computer is starting up, press F8 and that should bring up the safe mode menu.

You will see several options, one of that is going to be 'Last Known Good Configuration' - I'd start with that. If that doesn't work, try 'Enable VGA mode'.

You probably selected monitor settings incompatible with your hardware.

Hope you have good luck.

In thef uture, if you find your fonts too small, click on VIEW>TEXT SIZE at the top of your tooll bar.

Re: Any Computer Guru's here?

I have a matrox video card which is daul head, and a capture card -matrox rt2500. when I load up the rt2500 it launches someting called flex3d which gives me three monitors in the display settings area. The third screen is unused and can't be changed from 640x480 and low color palette. One day smart boy here got clickitus you know, where your talking on the phone and mindlessly clicking away at nothing....Only I set my third screen to my main monitor and wham...Nothing....640x480's worth of black screen. my desktop and all control functions had now become my invisible, third flex3d screen. No amount of tinkering on my part ever solved this issue. I had to format and rebuild. I sure hope you didn't do someting similar. Another time in the windows 3.1 days somewhere around stonehenge, I set all my font's to the same color as the background. Sometimes I just like to feel that cold rush of fear creeping up my spine ;D
