Does anyone have any positive/negative experiences to share about these LCD lights?

I am curious as to how they might stack up against other LCD lights. I know that a shootout is forthcoming but I thought I would ask to see if anyone mightr have some enlightening (no pun intended) info to share.

Thanks :)

Hi John:

I have never used the Zylight but I have read a lot of reviews and user reports. The light looks interesting but is really mainly useful as a small accent light or an on-camera ENG light.

The ability to change color temp on-board is very cool but the dollar cost for the relatively low ouput makes this light an expensive indulgence for me. If I was doing budget LED, I would seriously consider the VidLEDS and if I wanted to put together a small portable LED kit, I would get the two light Light Panels kit. But it is about 2k, that's some expensive lighting. But if you travel and shoot a lot and small size matters a lot, all of these LEDs are attractive.

I think in a few years, i think that this could become the predominant small lighting technology but it needs a lot more output and it needs to be cheaper to succeed.

Best,

Dan

Thanks Dan.

I thought it seemed kind of cool and at the same time expensive myself also. I'm thinking that I might use your advice that I read in another thread and maybe start with a soft box and maybe another light and get whatever else I need as I go along. I am trying to avoid coming on here and asking as so many people do -- "What kind of lighting kit do I need?" Of course, I am asking myself that question but I realize that, as with everything else in life, it depends on individual needs and likes.

One thing is for sure -- this is a great place to learn from other peoples experiences.

EDIT - Hey are you a fan of Spirited Away? I see you have No Face as your avatar. I'm a fan of many animated movies.
