I just somehow got talked into shooting a small music video in 3 DAYS. As in, we're shooting on Monday. I don't know why I get myself into these situations...

Anyway, the artist wants to shoot on the beach, but because of the lack of permits, I'm afraid we'd get shut down.. Looking at a cast and crew of 8-12, mostly cast. Very minimal equipment, prob just camera, bounce, sticks, maybe dolly and two or three crew members.

Basic story is spin the bottle between 8 twenty somethings.

Think we could drive up towards oxnard and shoot on the beach? I'm also worried about the harsh light at the beach though. I have no means to setup a silk or anything, but I could work with the hours in the day.

Just trying to brainstorm some ideas here... any and all ideas welcome, indoors or out. If we move inside, I've got lights

cheers

One idea is shoot when sun at low angles and keep cast with backs to sun, shoot against the sun and use silver reflectors to bounce fill. I don't how long you want to shoot on the beach with the changing angle and all that, but that was one idea. Also shoot some sunset stuff for the ending of the video... all beach music videos end with sunsets don't they? lol

here's a few frame grabs from my "beach" video (but I used overhead silk at times):

P.S. Prepare for blowing sand getting all over your camera and other gear, bring lots of plastic and duct tape.

Thanks Dennis, good looking out. I think I've found the perfect location... going to go scout it tomorrow. Best part is there's caves and overhead rocks to create shade.
