Any Advice welcome

I am trying to decide between a monopod or the tiffen steady stick as can be seen on this page http://dvcreators.net/steady-stick Check the video out!
It is only $99 where a good monopod is $150 with a good head.
My use is only weddings. I have a good tripod for the primary shot, but need to move around with the second camera then hold it still for some panning etc....

I am less than 1.5 months away from the wedding and need to practice with whatever I choose, So Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks Jimmy T:dankk2:

I'd say go with the steady stick. I checked out the website, and the video and especially for shooting weddings, it seems like it would be of better use than a monopod. It seems as though you'll have more versatility using that, with the weight being supported by your hips, you won't have to worry about having good shots at the beginning and then your arms and hands get tired at the end and everything starts waving around. Also you have the option to raise or lower the height to see overtop people, and even the ability to kneel down. It will also give you steadier shots while actually moving. Knowing that people who use the xl2, which is heavier than the DVX, are happy with the performance using the steady stick, I'm sure that you will be quite happy with its performance using a DVX.

Thank you macintosh. I thought so as well, but extremly glad to here from someone that knows people using it with good results....

Thanks for the quick reply..

Also, on another note, if for some reason you get it and you notice that it isn't what you were expecting or you find its not the right tool for what you want, there is a little bit of time for you to send it back or whatever. So at least you are giving yourself time to find the right tool instead of searching for something the week before your shoot.

Good thinking. You know DVXuser is one of the best resources I have found. I looked for some sites with advice for camera techniques for weddings and all I found were vidographers wanting to sell some 30 min dvd instruction for $175. I hope I never become one of these that will not even offer an opinion unless I am reimbursed.... So thanks again for taking the time

Yep, its nice to find people who are willing to take their time to help out for the sake of helping out and not just looking for money in return.

No problem, glad I was able to make the decision a little easier.

I took a geared column from a goodwill tripod, slung a strap around it to go over my shoulder and stuck the end into the fanny pack. It does exactly what the steadi-stick does, plus it's on a cheap tripod head so I can lock the camera angle in place. I have shot tons of documentary footage with it and it cost me less than ten bucks.

Well, the steady-stick is one of the more reasonably priced accessories for what it does. But I am a big fan of making what I can, which leaves more cash to buy what I can't make. Good Luck.

Why not just close up your tripod. Presto, the 3 legs become one. You don't need extra equipment, it saves money and you won't have to change the camera mounting in mid stream.
