Hi there, so i think its about time i left imovie and went onto final cut, ive been looking on ebay and have seen a few cheap unregistred copies of version 3 , 4 and 4.5.
My plan is to buy a cheap but full version of final cut to learn with and then finally upgrade to studio.
Personally id love to plonk 1200 bucks on studio straight away but that would make me as popular as a fart in a funeral right now in the household
So im running a g4 powerbook with external hard drive and such and wanted to know what limitations would i have with fcp3 over 4 or 5 besides the multi camera thing.
Also if i see final cut pro hd how old would that version be ?
And finally will my magic bullet disc that came with my dvx work with any version ?

Thanks for any advice

I think that you should go with Final Cut Express. It is the step between iMovie and FCP. Thats what I did, learned the basics on iMovie, then stepped up to FCE, now I'm on FCP. It is also cheap, at 299$, you can't go wrong.

thanks for your suggestion
can you upgrade from final cut express or will i need to pay out full price ?
i kinda thought i had to purchase a copy of a full version in order to purchase upgrade later

so thinking about it, maybe express is the way to go, by the time ive bought any used copy of pro and messed about updating it i may as well just get on with it and buy express.
next question then

what has express not got that pro does ?
im particuarly interested in the multicamera editing, can i do that with express ?

No - But check out Live Cut it is a free multicam editing app that goes along with FCP. It will only let you do 4 cameras tho. (You'll have to search for it on google, I have lost the link.)

You will need FCP 4.5 to run Magic Bullet 2.0

Uhm, yeah that's just dumb yorlov. I hate to sound harsh but we don't do that sort of stuff around here. Many of the people here are pros and know what it's like trying to make a living. Software guys need to get paid too. Take it somewhere else.
